Niagara Falls

FI and I are going to Niagara Falls for our honeymoon. I have never been and FI hasn't been since he was little. Just wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations for things that we should not miss. So far we are planning on doing the Maid of the Mist, a wine tour or two and going to the casino.  We will be there from April 19-23. Any suggestions are appreciated!

  • Yay!  I want to go there for our first anniversary!!  (Can't believe I am already planning our first anniversary trip when we're not even married yet.) I have nothing for you, I'd do the same things you're planning, I just love that you're going to Niagara Falls!

  • I went to Niagra Falls with my FI before we were engaged and it was relaxing. He loved it more than I did, which is to say that this is a guy-friendly type of experience. Def do the Maid of the Mist--be prepared to get soaked!--and do the tour where you get to walk behind the Falls. If you want to go for a fancy and unique dining experience, check out the revolving dining room at the top of the Skylon Tower. It makes one full rotation in an hour, so it's not scary or overwhelming. If you go, be prepared to spend close to $200 for dinner for 2--pricey, but memorable. Also, I recommend springing for a hotel room with a nice view. My FI and I stayed at the Sheraton and had a balcony with a full view of the Falls, which made the entire trip. The Falls are relaxing and more of a place to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere, not a place where there's much to do other than gamble. A nice pick for your HM!
  • Definitely go to Niagara-on-the-Lake and tour some wineries!

<div>Ditto this 100%.  Also there's a street at Niagara on the Lake called Queen Street that has a ton of cute shops, restaurants, ice cream parlours, etc.  Go there!  Anything worth seeing, including NOTL, is on the Canadian side so I hope you have your passports!  Have fun!</div>

  • The best way to do the touristy things is buy the attraction pass through the Parks Service.  They still have the winter pass advertised until mid april.  We went this past summer and the pass included:  Journey Behind the Falls, Maid of the Mist, the Whirlpool, Niagara's Fury, and all day use of the people mover and some other things we didnt have time for.  It was such a great deal....saved alot of money.

  • Oh wonderful thank you for all the suggestions. We're staying at the Sterling Inn and Spa on the Canadian side and we have our passport cards ready to go. We wanted to do a beach honeymoon but due to budget reasons we aren't able to. I figure we can save up and go for our one year anniversary! We just wanted to be able to get away and relax so Niagara Falls sounded perfect to us.

  • I loved Niagra Falls!!!! It is so pretty & there is a ton to do!
A lot you don't need to book in advance, there are things like wax museums and a Ripleys, and you can just walk in & out as you please. You will have the best time! Enjoy!

Oh good! I read the reviews and most of them were good but I did read a few bad ones. Did you find the beds hard? How was the breakfast in bed? I'm looking forward to that the most!

  • Check out the whirlpool- it's one of the neatest things, but congrats to you if you have the courage to take the little ride over top of it...it's like a little gondola on a wire, definitely made me nervous :)

    Have fun!
