  The best thing to do is call the bakery. When we first began planning in September of 2009, we called the bakery my FI wanted to use and they were not taking any more appointments/orders for 2009. We had to call them in January or February of 2010 to schedule an appointment. Many bakeries, only offer tastings and consultations for wedding cakes on certain days. I would definately try to do it at least 6 to 9 months before the wedding, if you can. I hope this helps.

  I did mine last week, and my wedding is 9/4/10.   She mentioned they do alot of weddings etc and I should bring my cake topper and anything special by July.....  It was nice to get it over with!

  I waited until about 4 or 5 months before the wedding.  The Knot checklist probably has a good indicator as to when is the best time to do it is.

  Well we were able to schedule it. We are setJune 13th... They need at least 6-9 months or more during wedding season...
