April 2012 Weddings

OMG this is for the marbles

I took a calligraphy class back in high school and have addressed more wedding invitations than I can count as favors for friends and bosses.  Today I'm finally starting my own.  And of course mine have to look better than anyone else's I have done :-)

Holy crap!!!  This time it's for me!

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

Wooo! You got this. Don't worry. Just give yourself plenty of time and make sure you have extras! I messed up several times but I'm no seasoned pro. I only did a few a day, just to make sure I didn't let my handwriting get sloppy as my hand started to hurt.

  • Thanks, yeah I don't need to do too many and since we're only sending out about 40 invitations so it's not going to be a huge project except for me nit finicking myself!

  • I finally finished my invites...it took me 11.5 hours and I didn't even write fancy! But I decorated the invitations so that took forever.  My invites are going out tomorrow!

  • Wow... I have major respect for you ladies that hand wrote your invites.

I printed mine out, it took about..... oh since the super bowl started...3 hours? But I have spend about 12 hours on assembling them...and probably another hour stuffing them.

    Labor of love.

Mine didn't take that long. Maybe 5 hours to address and stuff? I only had about 35 to do though.

Rardito and Amanda, how many did you have?

  • I had 103.  What took forever was punching out butterflies and gluing them on the invites, and I had to write in numbers on the rsvp cards as well

  • I had 87. But I printed them myself....and there was the invite, RSVP, and accomodation card. Along with a tag and a belly band to tie around the pocket.

It was such a pain in the butt fighting with my printer this past week..haha

Thankfully I do have extra envelopes (knowing from past experience that I'm not bad for an amateur but I will need to re-do a few) and I recruited fiance to help affix postage to reply cards and stuff envelopes after I write the addresses.  He actually likes something to work on while he's watching TV so he can just put down his other projects for a while and help with the invitations, in addition to getting tags tied onto favors.

I am still nit finicking myself that I'm not copying the script closely enough, and I'm having a hard time deciding whether to use the thinner pen or the bolder pen.  For some reason I don't worry so much when I'm working on other people's invitations :-P  But yeah I know I've probably got it in the long run, it was one vendor I wasn't worried about LOL.

  • Wow, i'm envious of your talent.
  • So awesome! I finished addressing 90% of my invites this weekend. I think we have about 50 invites for the 90 guests. I quickly realized that there is no way they will be perfect or super calligraphied (real word?), so I'll do it as best as I can. I'm using one of those calligraphy marker pens. It actually looks pretty nice.

I did mess up about 5 so far. It seemed to be happening more towards the end of my run, so I stopped. I guess my hand was too tired. Stuffing them won't be too hard since I don't have a lot of inserts or anything. Then just have to bribe my mom to bring them to the post office :)
  • I am jealous that you actually know how!  My aunt is really good at it, but she's in Cali dealing with her dying mother in law, so she couldn't help me address.  My MOH came over 2 weeks ago and we tackled the invites (about 55 or so invites for 105 people), and it took about 3 hours for both of us to address them.  They look good, not amazing, but they're good enough for me.  It took me about 4 hours to assemble the invites (bands, etc), and we stuffed them after we addressed them.  Breaking it up into chunks like that was a good idea, because I probalby would have gone BSC doing it all in one fell swoop!

I'm heading to the post office to mail them today!  Yay! :)
