No food tasting?

I went for the second time to visit seasons in washington township and I am ready to say that this is the place until they tell us they do not offer food tastings. I called the venetian and they don't offer tastings either. Should I book a place where I won't be able to taste the food until my wedding day?

A lot of places don't do tastings.

As long as its a reputable place, as Seasons is, I would not be worried.

As Heather said, A lot of places won't do it, but you do have an option. If you push it enough, Ask them to let you come on a night when they are having a "party" and ask if you can taste what they have available. It will help give you an idea, and like I said, if you push it enough, most places will do it.

I personally would want to taste the food first, but if they won't let you, then I'd say ask around to people you know who have attended events there and see what they thought of the food.

I didn't do a tasting but I was happy with the food at our venue on our wedding day.

I was more concerned with the reviews that the venue got here, as well as Yelp.com and general Google searched. Weddingwire.com had some reviews as well.

My best friend was married at Seasons in Oct. The food was very good. Obviously your food choices may differ from hers, but the overall quality was good.

My parents used to throw parties at Seasons all the time. You won't be disappointed with the food. I hear their cocktail hour is very good.

My venue (rockleigh) does not do tastings either. Scared the crap out of me because I've never been to a wedding there!

My venue doesn't do tastings before either - but I made sure I did my homework ahead of time on food reviews there. Everyone had great things to say, so I am trusting what I heard. No matter what though - you know some people are going to love it and others are going to hate it. You can't please everyone, even in the end. I went to a wedding at the Wesmount and thought cocktail hour was great, but the prime rib was terrible and flavorless - FI actually agreed to the point where he stopped eating it after two bites. Other people thought the food was great though. Just listen to what others have to say - if overall you hear great things, then you should be fine.

We had our reception at Seasons in November 2010 and the food was great. We were also afraid to book without a tasting but once we heard raves from vendors and other couples, we booked it.

Thanks everyone this makes me feel better not I have to convince my FI that we should do it. He had a friend that went to a wedding there and he said the food was good. I am still going to look at a few more places but I think seasons is #1 on my list now. I am going to try to see if they can let me taste food from a party they are having that night.

For what Season's costs and for the caliber they market themself at, shame on them for not offering tastings. The food there is good (been there 3 times), but it helps you select your entree. I would try and negotiate something. If you make that the deal breaker will they walk away from your biz? If so, I WOULD walk.

I would definitely suggest asking if you can do that.. that is what my venue offered to do as well.. they do not really offer tastings. but we went to a bridal show there and had some of the food, and I just asked around and everybody who said they've been there said the food is very very good... they said that we could go there on anight they were havinga party and taste some of that food if we wanted to, but we chose not to.

Did you check out Il Tulipano? We were set on Season's too until we went there. You get the whole place to yourself, never heard a bad thing about the food, and they do offer tastings. They were also willing to work with us a bit to customize things and trade things for other things,etc, Seasons had a take it or leave it type package.

Our reception was held at The Rockleigh and they don't offer tastings. If the venue has a good reputation, I wouldn't worry about it. Every said that food was awesome, and the food the day of the wedding didn't disappoint! Seasons is known for their food, so I wouldn't worry.

Yeah that is one thing I didn't like. I don't really want sushi and caviar b/c I don't see anyone really eating it but we would have to keep that in the package.

I booked an appt to see that Venetian on friday and I asked the banquet manager if they could do that and she said no b/c we wouldn't want anyone to do that on our wedding. I don't see what the big deal is I am not asking to pick off of peoples plates. Maybe she means since they are paying for the food that is not fair for them to give me a taste of it. I called seasons but the guy we spoke to will not be in until tomorrow.

I just got married at Seasons on Sunday, and we did not do a tasting. However, I can tell you that you should not be worried AT ALL. Everyone I have spoken to cannot stop raving about the food. I also was able to eat dinner (rare, right?!) and both my husband and I found it was delicious!

Seasons trades on its reputation for food - having lived down the street from it for 20+ years, I know that it used to be a restaurant only, and a very thriving one at that. When it made the jump to catering hall only, it kept their focus on food and service. I'd imagine the Venetian is the same, as it is owned by the same people.

Thanks everyday I am leaning more and more towards the seasons but I am going to check out a few more places and then make my final decision.
