hair question - am i being unreasonable? x-post

I just started with a hair lady this past year. I already have her booked to do my hair and 4 of my BM's hair on October 30.

I saw my hair lady this past Monday for a haircut and she wanted to finalize stuff for the wedding. I asked her if she could come to my house or the hotel to do our hair. She informed me that she "would spend the whole morning unloading her car" if she had to come out to us. So instead she wants me and my 4 BM's to trek from downtown Milwaukee to the burbs and back to get our hair done. Am I asking too much for her to travel on my wedding day?

Also, I already have a makeup lady. My hair lady said that my makeup lady would not be welcome to her salon bc it would be out of bad taste. She is now pushing her make up friend to do my make up.

She is also pushing her market america crap and then hit me up for a breast cancer fundraiser donation. Am I being unreasonable?

We did drive from downtown to a salon in Brookfield--everyone got their hair and makeup done by different stylists. It really maximized our schedule and made sure each girl got the style and look she wanted.  Can one person really do 5 up-dos in one morning?

I see what she's saying about brining everything to the hotel. Salons just have more ammenities. The chairs, mirrors, equipment are all set up specifically for doing hair, while a hotel room is not.

I can also see her point about not having an outside makeup artist into the salon if the salon is able to provide you with makeup artists. Maybe you could have your hair done at the salon and have the makeup done at the hotel?

As far as the other stuff, if you think she's being unprofessional, ditch her.  Who needs that extra stress right now?

Ditch her. I think you can find someone else either in their salon downtown or who is willing to come to the hotel and you have plenty of time.

Let her know that's why and she might change her mind.

My cousin did my wedding hair with a bottle of hair spray, a crap load of bobby pins, an extra mirror, some combs and a hotel chair. She is a professional too and she made do with what was in the hotel room.

Also I don't think one person can do 5 hair-dos. I am not sure how elaborate yours is but you really want someone to focus on  you and not be worried about the others.

Agreed! You don't want to be traveling all over the place the morning of--find someone who can do what you want.

DItch her.. We (7-9 girls) are traveling but its not far (30 mins) and there will be enough salon attendants to each person getting things done (makeup/hair) so that we will be in and out quickly and not waiting for everyone to finish.

Thanks ladies! Now.....any recommendations for salons near the War Memorial/downtown/east side area?

That was my other concern too....Each person at her salon rents their own chair. She can't find anyone else to help that day because one lady "doesn't like to do up-dos" and the other people who work there "just do blue-hairs". Um ok, that doesn't help me! LOL

You really should have discussed this  (the location of services) when you booked her.  If you normally travel to her for services, it wasn't unreasonable of her to think that you were coming to the salon.

That being said, you either have to get rid of your make-up person (if the salon does make-up, it would be weird to bring in an outside service), or find a new hair dresser.

Ditto.  If you did not discuss and get it in writing when you booked her that she would come out to you, then she had every right to assume that you all would be going out to the salon.  A pp explained it best when they mentioned everything that they would have to pack up or would be missin that can't be packed and brought with.  Sure, you can get someone to come out to your hotel, but they probably have done it a number of times and have their routine down to be able to keep on schedule, perhaps this person is not accustomed to that.

As for the pushing of other information and materials, if you feel it is unprofessional, I would just tell her that you only booked her for her hair services and if she continues to push that information on you or your wedding party, you will be finding another salon.

Luxe the Salon in Shorewood is FANTASTIC! It's where I'm going on Oct 16th. Caroline is the only one I allow to ever touch my hair! She's doing my hair and she has three other chairs to do the other four girls with the help of other stylists. She also does make-up, but it's not air brush or anything.

As a hairstylist, I can say that it's not unreasonable to ask your stylist to travel. However, it's also not unreasonable for your stylist to charge you for a little extra for it. Packing up all the stuff needed, and transporting it to an offsite location is an extra hassle, and you should be prepared to offer reimbursement for it.
