Non-floral centerpieces?

Since we are thisclose to nailing down our caterer I figured I better start researching florists. Has anyone done non-floral centerpieces? Do you do them yourself? Rent them? I've included some pictures below of what I'm talking about. We are doing a "New England Nautical/Beach" theme. I <3 the lantern look, but am open to hurricane glasses because they seem to be easier to find/rent. TIA.

    I have done many non-floral centerpieces. I think if you are a creative person and you have time it will save you money to do them yourself, however if you are planning all aspects of your wedding you may want to hire a professional to create the vision for you. It will save you time. I personally like the lantern look, you can find these at any local craft store. The hurricane glasses "I think" is a little dated. Look at other options for glass if you want to go with this design... Good luck!
