Can you tell me a little more about the full plate diet? I looked at some basic info online, but could you maybe give me an idea of what a typical day of eating is like? I did Weight Watchers a few years ago and lost 53 pounds, but I gained about 25 back. I am doing WW on my own now and have lost about 6 pounds in 2 months. Thanks for the advice on my other post and the info

Hey!!  Ok, the basic concept is to increase fiber intake and therefore decrease the yummy, but not so good for you foods that we all love so much!!!  The ultimate goal is to increase fiber intake to about 40 grams per day.  Sounds like a lot, but with a little planning I found it wasn't so hard.  The main things I switched up to make this work for me is I started eating breakfast (which I hadn't before) and I'd make it like 2 pieces of fruit.. generally a banana (3 grams fiber) and a pear (6 grams fiber).  For lunch I found these AMAZING whole wheat wraps.. and I am out of them right now so I can't think of the brand, but I'll let you know after I go grocery shopping this weekend.  These wraps are worth 22 grams of fiber!!!  I try to eat one every day because they are just so darn good.. I promise, they are like the tastiest wraps I've ever had!!!  And then I just change up what kind of wrap I have (grilled chicken caesar, grilled chicken with sauteed onions and mushrooms, tuna, peanut butter, etc..).  For dinner I just try to incorporate as many veggies as possible and if I'm having a meal that the veggies don't really fit into I try to eat a salad first.  The diet advocates making sensible dinner choices, but I have found as long as you kind of fill up on fiber first you're less likely to eat that extra helping of whatever after.

I also made some easy changes to increase fiber and decrease fat and cals.. for example, I am a carb-o-holic.  I love bread and pasta more than life itself.  There is no way any diet could ever in my life get me off carbs.  So, instead of cutting out my pasta, I switched from regular to whole wheat.. same with bread, if I have a burger i use a whole wheat roll, sandwich, whole wheat bread.. whatever.  Something full plate diet taught me is that wheat bread is no better than white bread.. be careful when you read those labels.. its WHOLE WHEAT bread that is the healthy kind.  I had been buying "wheat" bread for years thinking that was the good stuff!  Another easy substitution I made was brown rice for white rice and I started eating a lot of black beans (8 grams of fiber for 1/2 cup) with my meals.  I came across this really amazing black bean soup from allrecipes.com.. its AMAZING.  I've also started making lots of smoothies for snacks, rather than all the yucky stuff I used to eat (and by yucky, I mean yummy.. but fatty..).  I find 1 whole banana, about a cup of strawberries, a cup of skim milk and 2 packets of splenda mixed with about a cup of ice make an awesome and huge (so, filling) smoothie with about 6 grams of fiber!!!

I know this is a lot of info, but these are just some things I've tried that have really made the diet painless for me.  I've always been a little on the bigger side, not fat, but certainly not thin, so I've done a lot of diets over the years!  Weight Watchers always worked great for me, but I've always felt so deprived on it.  Full Plate is the only thing that has ever really worked and really not made me feel starving or like I am missing out on something.  I really do highly recommend it.

Ok, and just a few more things that really helped me and may help you.. I have an iphone and there is an app on there called the allrecipe.com dinner spinner.  That has helped me find really yummy recipes that I have been able to slightly alter to put FF ingredients, rather than reg or wheat rather than reg or whatever.  That's really helped me not feel deprived.  There is also a good app called "lose it" that is a calorie counter.  I've very loosely used this to help me guage what I am putting in my body.  Finally, I follow the full plate diet on facebook and they give you TONS of great recipe ideas that use healthier ingredients.

Sorry this is so long!!  I hope this helps!!!  I'll let you know if I think of anything else!!!  =)

Thanks for all the info. I started adding more fiber when I started WW because it makes things worth less points. I will definitely look more into the full plate diet because it seems easily doable. Thanks again!
