djs and photographers and tips

Hi everyone!
So i am at the point of looking for djs and photographers but i have no idea where to start! my mom keeps suggesting family friends for cost but i'm hesitant because i don't know if they're pro's at weddings. But ive been looking at previous posts and writing down recommended people but any tips or advice or names that can get me started would be really appreciated!

oh and has anyone used or heard anything good or bad about Robert E. Barbian Studio for photography? Thanks!

I just want to say that if these family friends are/would be guests at your wedding, then I really would steer clear of them serving as a vendor for your wedding.  Too many times hiring family and friends to be vendors = disaster since feelings, etc. are involved instead of keeping it strictly business.  If all goes well and you are 100% satisfied with their services, then great, however if an issue arrises, it often makes it complicated to complain/address these issues with a family member or friend and relationships can be damaged in the process. Just my two cents!  :)

Hi! I would recommend The DJ Crew for DJ's. John is one of the owners and totally awesome! He is very knowledgeable about all kinds of music and each assistant DJ goes through a training process w/ the company. Let them know that Mike & Jen getting married on 7/24/10 sent you! www.thedjcrew.com

Also, for photogs I recommend Imagen Photography. They won Fox 8 Hot List's Best Photogs for 2009. Their pictures are awesome!!! They also have an associate package (if you are looking for a cheaper option). www.imagenphotos.com. Again, let them know Mike & Jen sent you!

Tips: Do what YOU want for the wedding. Money is tight everywhere, so I'm sure the vendors you choose understand that and would be willing to work w/ a budget you have in mind!

    Check out T1photo.com

He is our photographer and has been awesome to work with so far.  His prices are also very reasonable.

We are using Hats Off Entertainment for our DJ and have heard nothing but good things about them.

Good luck with whoever you choose!

Another photographer for you to consider is Tami Musick Photography. She has done a couple of family picture sessions for my husband and I, and I did a boudoir session with her, too. She's wonderful to work with. Made us feel very comfortable with her, and all of the photos came out great! Her prices are very good, too, and she can customize the package to suit your needs. It's rare these days for a photographer to include a CD of your photos as part of the package, but she does just that. Nice! Check out her blog here:

I'm not familiar with Barbian at all.

We used Cavanaugh Photography and TKO Entertainment as our photographer and DJ, respectively.  DH and I were very happy with both vendors! :)

We're using Elizabeth Pruitt Photography and Jerry Bruno. Definitely steer away from family friends as vendors. Too risky.

I am booked with jay kossman very happy with quality his prices are as low as $500- $2000 (full day 12 hour package) thats the one i booked. make sure to find a service that includes a hi res cd to make prints. what I found is some area photographers won't give you one and charge up to $10 per 4x6 thats crazy, jay gives u a cd but I will probally just print though him he only charges 9 cents per 4x6
please mention carol candow if you book him.

as for friends and family they want to enjoy ur day and you need to ask yourself if that person doesnt come though will it upset u to not have great photos, or music without a hitch
