Engagement Ring Size Issue

Hi all!
I have been happily engaged for a whopping 2 days, but my ring is just a tad too big.  I have not had it fall off unexpectedly...yet, but after reading about all the horror stories of people losing their engagement ring, I feel I need to somehow tighten it.

So, here is the main issue.  I don't want to have it completely resized, because I plan to wear my engagement ring on my right ring finger after we are married.  My right ring finger is about .5 a size bigger than my left ring finger, so I need to resize it temporarily.  I am absolutely against tape, and I feel that the ring snuggies look kind of tacky, but if it's an only resort I don't mind doing that.  If my hands swell more this summer then it might be okay, but I am sure our engagement will be at least  one year, so I know next winter this will continue to be an issue.  I read something about ring guards scratching the ring possibly?  My ring is yellow gold.  Please let me know some of your suggestions or experiences!

Thanks,
Saxon

The ring snuggies aren't a great long-term solution but if it only a year or so that's what I would recommend. That's what I have and it is pretty comfortable, won't damage the ring, and no one but you will really see it. I got a pack of different sizes at Claire's for around $8 so if you hate it you aren't out all that much money.
  • Mine is slightly big also but thats when my fingers are cold...when they're warm it can get tight to the point of uncomfortable.  I've noticed (after 6 months of being engaged) that my finger has sort of swollen around it in general making it harder to come off, even when a bit cold.  Not sure if other people have this experience but, I was worried at first it was too big but now I don't think I'd change to to the fact that it somehow fits better (not sure if that makes any sense).

  • They make ring sizers that go inside of the ring.  If you can, go to a jewelry store and check with them, since I don't have personal experience with those.  I wanted one since it took a while before I could take my ring to be resized, but due to warranty issues, no one other than Zales can mess with my ring.  I hope you find something that helps you!

  • I was on vacation when I got engaged and the ring was too big so we went to wal-mart and in the jewlery department they have a little box of ring snuggies for like 3 or 5 dollars. They come in like 6 different shapes and sizes all in the same little box so you'll find one to fit. I wore mine for like 3 months because I didn't wanna give it up to get resized and it didn't bother me at all! Also the jewlery store has these clings you can get, but if your ring is like mine and has diamonds around the band too then you can't use these because they will scratch the diamond.

  • JessicaPop--diamonds can't get scratched except by other diamonds.

OP: get it sized for a year or so and you may change your  mind about where you wear the ering after the wedding (ex: with your wedding band).

  • Thanks for your suggestions, everyone.  I will look into those.  I agree, the snuggies are inexpensive and can't hurt the ring, but for a year I think they might be tacky.  I may just purchase some and wear them on cooler days.

I read something the other day about resizing beads that are melted in the bottom part of the ring.  I think they are intended for top-heavy rings to help keep them from spinning, but I was wondering if anyone knew if those were permanant, and if they helped slightly make the ring tighter.  I think the best bet might just be to get a jewler's opinion, but I just wanted to ask everyone to get a variety of thoughts.

    I appreciate everyone's help!

I had mine resized about 3 times. When I had gotten engaged my ring came in the standard size 7 -- I was then told my ring finger was a size 3. After I got it back it was still too big, I would wash my hands and it would want to just come off. After its all said and done its now a size 2.5...Yes I have tiny hands :)
