Nail biters unite!

But seriously... I have been biting them more than ever! I did SO good for a while back in March... they were long and pretty and I was so proud of myself! Any of you ever had to break this nasty habit? (I've been doing it since I was little... i'd say about 5-6 years old). I have tried fake nails, bad tasting stuff, gloves, and nothing works. I want them to be pretty for the wedding... and I am literally ashamed to show people my ring because I don't want them that close to my hands!

I had to break it. I chewed gum intead of my nails. It sucked.

So gum worked for you?? I even read a book that said snapping a rubber band on your wrist every time you bite will send a signal to your brain telling you not to do it. I tried that... but you have to be disciplined enough to actually snap the rubber band LOL I don't even know why I bite them... i've just always done it I guess.

Will keeping them polished help? Or what about that brush on stuff that tastes really nasty when you put your fingers in your mouth. That might help deter you and break the habit.

I am the same! I go through stages of biting my nails. I will bite them for a few months and then let them grow for a few months. I use a few different methods to stop when I do stop. Fake nails helps sometimes. I will also polish my nails and instead of biting my nails I will pick the nail polish off. Still not healthy for my nails but helps until I can stop biting them at all.

I used to be a serious nail-biter.... to the point where I would bleed.  I went and got the acrylic nails on and kept up with them for like 2 months. Once my real nails were the length of the fake nail, I went and had them PROFESSIONALLY soaked off and had them immediately give me a little manicure so they were polished and pretty --- and I never bit again.  Not sure whether is was the fact that they looked so good or the fact that for the time I had the nails on, I wasn't able to bite, but regardless, it worked for me!

When you had them professionally removed, did it hurt?? I used to get artificial nails, and when the nails got old, they would take them off and put on a new set... but they would literally rip off the old nails! Ouch. That's not a bad idea, though. Where did you go to have them done? I, too, make them bleed. Some of them are so short people are like "How did you even bite down that far!?" I would just love to have pretty nails for the wedding that are my real nails. It would be an awesome gift to my FI because he has really been trying to get me to quit my habit.

What if you go get a manicure with the Gel Polish?  I prefer the Gellish over the Shellac because it's thicker.  It goes on your natural nail and is really sturdy...the polish made my nails so durable, so I doubt you could bite them then! Might be worth a shot!

I have resigned to the fact that I will probably always bite my nails but it's hard for me to function when I do have them! Like taking my contacts in and out. So for special occassions I go get fake ones put on. :) Problem solved!

When they remove them, they should soak them off.  You stick your hands in some sort of fluid (I don't remember exactly what it was) and the fake nails kind of just dissolve. Your real nails will be really thin and brittle, but once they file them and polish them, they will start to thicken up and grow.
