how would I...

On my invite I was just planning to put reception to follow and the reception venue address and my FMIL brought it to my attention that if I don't mention we will be serving a MEAL a lot of people might decide to skip it for dinner since it will be like 530 when the reception starts..I did not want to do a separate reception card...its not a choice dinner its a bbq meal served buffet style...how would I let the guests know that they'll get fed!

Re: how would I...

  • You could say "dinner reception" instead of just "reception". That would make it clear that food will be provided.

  • I would assume that there would be a meal at that time of day.

  • I just put "reception to follow". Because of the timeing of my ceremony, I figured my guests would assume dinner will be served. I am, however, including on my wedding website that the reception will have dinner and dancing. I may also have our preacher say a little something along those same lines after we are announced at the ceremony.

  • I'm with snuff. I would think that there is a meal. I have actually never been to a wedding where a meal wasn't served.

  • Its common practice here to just serve fingerfoods...I've only been to a few weddings where food was offered as a meal.

  • Are you serving a buffet or plated meal?  If a meal, then on the rsvp, ask for them to choose.  If it's common for meals not to be served (which is not where I'm from or live now), then I like the first response of saying dinner reception to follow.

  • I put dinner and dancing to follow on my invites.

I've never been to a wedding where a meal wasn't served either.

  • I agree with Cathy, most people will assume that dinner is included.  If you are that concerned you can write "dinner reception to follow".
