Somewhat cheap DJ's/Equipment for ceremony only & Officiant??

For the DJ, we just need them for the ceremony only and/or just rent equipment. I got a quote from All Night Long, and to rent the equipment it's $300! And for the DJ there it's $100 more. I am hoping more like $200. Even that kinda pains me. Anyone have opinions on sound quality of just having a CD player over their equipment/DJ?

Officiant - We are not religious, but I'm sure there are some religious officiant's out there that will do a civil service so that'd work too. Any suggestions?

TIA!

$300 seems pretty reasonable; that type of equpiment costs a lot to begin with, then  the time involved to load all the equipment into their vehicle, transport it, set it up, let you use it, then break it all back down and take it back.  Even if your event is only an hour or less you're asking them to commit to what amounts to probably at least five hours of their day along with committing to not take any more lucrative job that may come up after booking your event.

Where did you end up booking?  I think your last post about outside florists you said you were looking at golf courses?  Your vendor should have recommendations for officiants.  We're using Linda Venniro; she does religious ceremonies or civil ceremonies.  She's kind of pricey, but what I really like is that she does her best to get to know you and personalize your ceremony.  We had an almost hour & a half Skype interview with her and she's just wonderful.

I agree with vegasgroom about the equipment. That price seems reasonable, and if having the DJ for just another $100, I would get the DJ too, they know how to work best with their equipments.

We are having Rev Peter Billitteri as our officiant. He already came with the package. We've talked to him and he's great. He can customize your ceremony as you would like it to be. He performs religious, non religious, or a mix of both, among other ceremonies. He's been doing it for 32 years, real nice man. Here's his website:

@Vegasgroom - I totally hear you. We are just trying to find the cheapest option possible, whether that be a DJ that is newer and has cheaper prices due to that, or just renting equipment ourselves from somewhere etc.

@direy - We actually haven't booked yet. That's what I'm trying to figure out now. There are a decent amount of venues that are similar in price. For example there's one that includes a DJ, Officiant, Chairs, everything for $1,000. Then the others range from renting the space for $125 but nothing else is included, then to $250 to $1,000 range where they do include chairs and an arch etc., but do not include the DJ/music and officiant. So right now just trying to break the cost down before we decide. I want to exhaust all options this time. We are for sure doing a golf course though, soooo much happier going this route!

Also, thanks for the officiant recs so far!

Thanks!  We got a decent discount on the reception package and it's convenient because it's right by FI's parents' house...

I paid 200 dollars for my Dj for unlimited hours or 65 an hour depending on how long you want the dj 200 bucks is the better deal.

@Nina - Who was your DJ?  I've gotten a few quotes so far, one at $100, another at $150 and lastly one at $175.  It's also a matter of reviews and stuff at this point.

@Nina - Nevermind, I found who it was.  Did he do your ceremony too?  If so, how was his timing on everything?  We have certain songs that aren't normal wedding songs so will have to be timed right etc.

    Thanks!

No he didn't because my venue for the ceremony has perferred vendors who freakin sucked... ruined all my ceremony music and if I had not brought a back cd for the actual ceremony songs everything would have been messed up!

If I could have though I would have used him and I wish I could have. I know he has done ceremonies before though.

Are those prices your listing hourly rates or flat rates?

They are all for an hour.....do you think they'd need more time or try to charge more time than that or something?
  • edited December 2011
I think I misunderstood what you were looking for I thought you were looking for someone for reception and ceremony I am sorry. Yeah I am not sure how it works for ceremonies since I had to used the perferred vendor one and they charged me 150 for just the ceremony it wasn't even by the hour. I arrived 40 mins before my ceremony was supposed to start and he was already there and then the time after the ceremony it took him to break everything down. I don't know what it would have been if I was charged hourly.  But I know when I was looking for videographers for just the ceremony and an hour at the reception they all had a min of 4 hours.. I know they aren't the same as djs but most vendors that I called for whatever all had min of time.

@Sara - Did you ask your venue if they provide a stero / sound system for the ceremony? If they do you can ask a friend to play your music on que from an iPod or Cd.

@nina - Was your officiant included in the package or did you book her separately? How much was she if you did book her separately?
