Favor Ideas

So FI and I were all set to do truffles for our favors, but we ordered a sample box and even with the ice pack the truffles arrived today half melted. Argh! What did you guys decide to do for favors?

I was thinking about lottery scratch off tickets in a pretty box with a tag that says something to the effect of, "Here's hoping for some riches from the Mr. and Mrs." What do you think?

We know favors aren't necessary, but with our friends and family it is tradition to do something. Love to hear your thoughts!

I'm going to keep it pretty simple. I was originally going to do lollipops for my half vintage/half laid-back early spring wedding...but it was too unecessarily expensive so I've decided to do cute round silver tins wrapped in gold and silver tulle with matching ribbon tied around the tulle. We're going to fill them with hershey kisses and finish it off with a tag that will say something like "Our day wouldn't have been as sweet without you!" To prevent the kisses from melting I'll probbaly buy them the day before, put them together and store them in the fridge until their ready to be set up at the venue.

Can't you order a bunch of truffles from a local place so they don't have to be delivered?

Yes, we could order truffles locally, but the ones we ordered are in our budget and we haven't found any around here that are comparable in price.

that stinks about the truffles. The lottery ticket is a cute idea. We got fortune cookies. Just a little something to eat on the way back to the hotel/home.
Originally I wanted to make paper cones that fold over so they don't really spill (you can stamp different things on the outside of the paper to go with your theme or personality) with mini cookies in them. Everyone vetoed that because I was already spending a ton of time on the hotel cookies.

we're having sparklers for our exit, so we're attaching the sparklers to matchboxes that say "Bride and Groom, date, Thank you". I know it's not the most creative but it's something people could use again and they were on sale haha!

Personally I would watch out with the scratch off's. There are alof of people that don't do the lottery or scratch offs for religious reason . So if you do scratch off's i would also have a second favor for the people who don't do lottery.

I haven't nailed down my favors vet but I think its going to be something edible. I don't want to waste my money on a picture frame or something that no one is going to use and it will dust. I would watch out for things with nuts in them , people could be allergic.

We did almond flavored cookies in organza bags. They were a BIG hit too! My secret was that I used Pillsbury sugar cookie dough and just added almond extract to it. The cost per favor was $0.59!

I was going to do truffles, too, but I decided agianst them. We just did brownies in a monogrammed box. They were easy to make ourselves and didn't cost a fortune. Another thing you could look at is popcorn favors. There is a popcorn store on John Young Parkway a few minutes from The Loop, and they have all sorts of flavors at a decent price.

Also, I think It's Tasty Too does cake balls, which are kind of similar to truffles...

Thanks ladies for all the great ideas! Erica, how far in advance did you make your cookies? I am nervous about making enough cookies for 115 people, but I was thinking of trying them with a coffee extract. I love the almond extract, but FI is not a big fan.

We did sugar cookies from Cookie Cousins - they went down really well and came out so pretty.

my FI and I decided to do a charitable donation for our wedding favors. We chose to donate to the American Diabetes Association becuase alot of our family members are diabetic and its a great cause close to our hearts. So at each table setting there will be a cardstock flyer I guess you can say that will say to them:

In leu of wedding favors, we have decided to send a charitable donation in your name to the American Diabetes Association In honor of:

and we placed our grandparents names. This way your guests feel like they are apart of a great cause and money is not wasted.

Personally I would never do the Charitable donations just because we feel that our donations should be private not publicize. Some people think it is tacky because you can get a tax deduction out of it. Also depending on how well you our with your guest they might be rude and upset , not about not having a favor part but about the way your perseved . Not everyone supports the same charity . So if your doing that you might want to have like 2 options of charities to give to . Some people could see it as snotty too . Throwing it out there " look we donated " .

Now don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with donating . I donate everymonth . I am just trying to let you knowanother view point and how some people might take it.

Well I personally think that a donation is well worth the money no matter what cause we are donating for. I would rather our money go toward a good cause then guests throwing items in the garbage. I also think that it is up to the bride and groom to choose the where the money is donated to because it is something that is obviously close to their hearts, and I wouldnt see the guests having a problem with that. We shared the idea with all of our family and they think it is a great idea and that more couples should do this because honestly what are they going to do with a box and ribbon. That is my opinion. In addition, I didnt know about tax deductions, that was the last thing on my mind, I would just rather spend my money on something worth while.
