  How about just a plain gold or white gold band? Something with no diamonds at all. Would she like that?

  chrmun- That is pretty perfect.  She might actually even like it.  She's been working on moving away from the "so butch they call her sir" look and soften it up a bit and that might be right down her alley.  Definitely adding it to the list of possibilities.  Besides, who wouldn't love that little blue box?

  I noticed you're from MSP, you might want to try looking at Wedding Day too (especially the Eden Prairie location-they have the most selection onsite). They carry a lot of unique lines that you may not have even thought of.

  Just had this issue myself. Ended up looking at men's engagement rings and resizing. We have bands with spray diamonds, but no solitare. The only drawback is that they are wider than womens' rings, so we won't be able to fit the engagement ring and wedding ring on the same hand...

  You could always look at non-diamond engagement rings... I hate diamonds, so my ring has an Iolite... check out Gemvara, you can customize rings, and they have a huge selection of styles. Find a style you like, and then pick the metal, and what gem(s) you want.

  "Our rental fee is $300. Oh what's that? It's for your wedding? Sorry, I meant $500."

  i know at Kay Jewelers, they have some thinner bands in the mens section that arent too wide for a womans finger, but it has just one diamond in it.  check out the mens sections.  if you know she wont want something big and flashy there isnt a point in beating around it.

  Have you thought about wooden rings? They're beautiful, less traditional, and supposedly just as sturdy. I almost got bentwood rings from etsy for my not-so-femme-y sweetie, but went a different way at the last minute. But still, check them out:

  We went highly untraditional as she works with her hands and didn't want a 'girly' ring. We found a pair of earrings we loved and had them turned into matching pendants.

  We didn't want to have girly rings either and we were looking for something unique and masculine. We decided that we want something unconventional for our wedding bands, because well,we are very unconventional people:D.   We choose our designs from the shop, but the jeweler will make my ring a little bit wider and my fiancé wants to have a ring with nine diamonds, instead of seven (we met in seventh of september, so she want  us to have symbolic rings)
