Tipping the Engagement Photographer?

Ok, so my pics were supposed to be today but got "rained out" :( - but I was thinking about this and wanted to get your opinion, ladies!

I read somewhere on the knot about tipping at the wedding. It had a section about tipping your photographer if he or she is not the owner of the studio. Does that apply to your engagement pics too? He will be doing our e-pics and our wedding, but he is part of a larger studio.

Thoughts? what did you guys do?

Re: Tipping the Engagement Photographer?

  • My photographer is a friend, so i was gonna give her total about $500, for everything. She isnt charging us, but i would think u would tip the photographer if it isnt the owner. but as to how much, i have no idea...so i guess  i really didnt help u much..sorry lol
  • general rule of thumb is, if they aren't the sole owner of the company than you tip them because they aren't making 100% of what you paid to begin with. And yes, I would tip them for the engagement session.

I don't know of anyone who tipped for their engagement photos. We aren't going to, but then again our photographers are also the owners.

  • We're not tipping because a) he is a friend of ours b) we paid 1/2 up front to secure him and c) he owns the company

  • Yea we didn't tip for our engagement photographer either.  He was also a friend of ours and the owner.
