Favorite "just engaged" gift?

So my friend just emailed me from abroad, where she's working, so excited that her sister just got engaged. She wants to send her and her mother a little something that's fun/creative since it's killing her that she can't be with her (she's mailing her dad the movie Father of the Bride).

I was trying to think of what I was most excited about when I first got engaged and actually, I really loved the Bridal mags that my MOH sent because it was the first thing I wanted to do to start planning and I had never looked through one before.

Any other fun suggestions? Memorable "just engaged" gifts?

FI's sister gave us a basket full of little things, and I'll always remember how thoughtful and creative it was. The basket was made up of some kitchen utensils, a bread/loaf pan, martini and mudslide mixers, a paperweight made out of a big diamond ring, memo pads with our initials on them, and wine glasses with butterflies painted on them.

I love the bridal magazines idea! I always get so excited when my Brides magazine is in the mailbox! :0)

I never got any just engaged gifts lol
I like the bridal magazine ideas. Oh one of my friends gave me a little cute butterfly file and labeled each section with music, vendors, attire, hair etc that was really cute. So I could keep track of ideas along the way.

My sister (MOH) got me a wedding planner and Bridal Magazine.

A friend of mine got me a door knocker with the future "family" name engraved on it and est. 2011 since that's the year we are getting married. Here's the link.

When my friend got engaged, she was living in Mass but knew her wedding would be in CT. I actually picked up 2 or 3 CT bridal magazines and went through them with mini post-it's, marking the stuff I knew she was looking for (reception in a mansion, to hold 150 people, etc). She told me later how helpful it was!

we got some really nice things:
- a magazine but also a years subscription to that magazine
- Waterford toasting glasses which was really nice
- nice frame from engagement pictures
- RSVP holder / brides book of lists
- gift certificates for manicures since i had a new ring to show off
- ring holder - it was really cute bellek trinket box

My MOH got us a set of Vera Wang toasting flutes. I can't find a pic of them online, but I LOVE them!! She went ring shopping with FI so she actually gave them to us the night we got engaged!

Oh and I love the bridal magazine idea, a few people gave me some and it was so fun going through them!

My 2 faves were the Lenox frames to put our engagement pics in from FI's cousin and the mickey proposing to minnie statue my parents got me, since we got engaged in disney!

I also got a ton of bridal magazines and they have been very helpful. It's always nice to get fun mail!

Subscriptions are usually under $20 for the year which isn't bad either.

My grandparents bought us the Willow Creek "Promise" statue and a wall hanging when we got engaged.

FI's cousins bought us our silverware off our registry as a belated engagement gift, and FI's nana bought us a cute set of dessert plates from Pottery Barn.

I got 3 engagement gifts that I absolutely love: my oldest friend got me a set of Lennox flutes with pearls in the stem, my Mom got me the matching cake service set and another friend bought me the gigantic InStyle Weddings book. The first 2 got me excited about the big day and the last one is FULL of great pictures, ideas and advice.
