NWR: Need some opinions

So my bridesmaids grandpa passed away this weekend.  He was recently diagnosed  with cancer, the tumor shrunk and they thought he was doing better but then they realized that the cancer was still spreading..  Anyways this all happened within the last month.  I personally don't know her grandparents, or really know her parents.... is it weird if i still send a plant or something to the wake?  I just know that she is going through a hard time (they were really close) and i thought it would be nice ... but at the same time don't want to be weird.  What do you think?

And if you think I should send something - what would you send?  and what do I write on the card?

  • I think it's a really sweet gesture. I would send some flowers and put "I'm praying for your family during this difficult time." or something general like that. It will let you know you're thinking of her.

  • I would for sure send something to her. I would just put in the card that you are thinking about her and her family and that they are in your prayers, and that you are here is she needs or wants anything at all.

  • I would send it.  I would maybe send a plant, that way you can tell her she can keep it and take it home with her if she wants it.  All you have to do is tell them to make sure your friend gets to keep it.  It's common for people to do that around here.  Either way it's a great idea to let you know you are thinking of her because it's her loss too.
  • If you don't feel right sending it to the wake, then send it directly to her. I had several friends do that when my Dad passed away. It was nice to know they were thinking of me.
  • When you said something like that in a time of need no one is ever going to think "why would this weirdo send flowers."
