Flavored cake, good or bad?

I want to have a classy, but unforgettable wedding. I hate the taste of traditional white cake, so I have looked into flavored options like pineaple. Our wedding is in August, so I thought it would be very refreshing and different. Thoughts?

That sounds awesome!  What kind of frosting are you thinking of?

I love all cakes - white or flavored :) We had red velvet with cream cheese frosting at our wedding.

I never say no to cake either. You can pump up the flavour more by adding a great filling too. We did a passionfruit mousse filled vanilla bean cake that was insanely tasty.

I think that sounds really good, but I have yet to meet a cake that I don't like. :)  We did white cake the lemon filling, chocolate cake with chocolate filling, and white cake with white filling.  Our baker let us sample all kinds of fillings with the cake, and they were all fabulous.

I am going with a white cake with raspberry buttercream frosting for one tier then chocolate with hazelnut cream frosting for the other tier all covered with a white fondant.

That sounds yummy! However, the problem with having a unique flavored cake is that some people may not like it. For example, I don't like the flavor of coconut so I would be a little bummed if I went to a wedding and that's the only type of cake they served. I've also seen cakes that had different flavored tiers, so maybe you could include vanilla or chocolate for your picky guests. Good luck!

I say nuts to picky eaters. That's their problem, not yours.

I'm a garbage disposal and will eat almost anything but I would still cater to my guests. We're having a clambake but I still have to serve something to those who don't eat seafood...it sucks.

I agree that you can't cater to everyone, but having a unique cake flavor and then saying "nuts" to "picky eaters" is different.  I don't see an issue with having a unique cake flavor, but if it were me, I would also offer a standard flavor (white or chocolate).

Like SD...she would just like to have the clam bake but she understands that some people can't or don't eat seafood so she will offer something for them (which I would really appreciate, btw, since I hate seafood :) )

Not that you asked, but I went to a clambake that had tortellini wrapped in foil for non-seafood eaters (although maybe they also had chicken as a non-vegetarian, non-seafood option).  The tortellini was a really good option, I thought, since it could just get tossed in the pit with the other food, and tasty!

Our biggest tier was tres leches, my favorite cake, with filling.  There was none left.  We did also do chocolate with chocolate filling and white with raspberry filling just in case.  So every tier was a different flavor like the PP said.

That sounds good! We were trying to figure out something else to serve that wouldn't require a whole lot of extra work. We might just scrap the idea totally, I didn't realize how many people don't eat seafood :(

I would love to try pineapple cake.  Sounds so yummy.

I have heard alot about a key lime custard filling too - I hope that is right, it sounds sooooooo good!  I am on the hunt for a recipe if anyone has one.
