July 2012 Weddings

Stupid Kay...

I'm in PA now! I went in to Kay to get my ring dipped (rhodium plated) and they told me it wouldn't be done till after my wedding!!!  I FLIPPED!!  I kind of felt bad for the girl but when I do it in MI it's done in like 5 days max.  They told me they'd call the shop and put a rush on it.  If I don't have it back by the 11th I'm calling them and having them mail it back to me no matter what!

Oh and I love the facebook thing.  Instant wedding porn gradification IMO because people post pics so soon on there!  I'm friends with some of the girls and my pic is the picture of FI and I at the wedding this past weekend.  Add me please! =P

Re: Stupid Kay...

  • Haha this totally answers my question about what they were doing with your ring...I almost asked on FB, but then saw this! They can just clean it in the store though, right? I put on my wedding band last week and the diamonds in it are SO much brighter...made mine look so dull but I'm hoping it will look better after a good cleaning.

Anyway, I hope they get it back to you asap! The way it is, my stomach still flips every time I realize I'm not wearing my ring...or if I think I don't feel it when I feel for it initially lol I can't imagine having to part with it for 5 days...

It's being sent out to 'freshen up.'  Basically they'll dip it in some metal and get rid of all the dents and dings, get rid of any yellow tint to it, polish it so it sparkles like mad and make the white gold look brand new!  It has to be sent to their repair place, they do nothing in store except cleaning it.

ETA - I still flip out too!  I'm going to be having little panic attacks till I get it back!

  • Oh hell no way. Did they know how long it was going to take when you brought it in?

They told me the 17th and that's when I flipped.  I said, hell no and threw a fit and they said they'd make sure it was back by the 14th.  But if it's not back by the 11th I'm calling and having them send it back no matter what.  It really needs done so I didn't want to not do it but I am not happy.

ETA - Owengirl:  You could probably still do it but I'd get on it like now.  It shouldn't take that long to do this.  You can always go and see what they say about how long it will take.

  • That seems absolutely rediculous! I would definitely stay on them about when it will be back and if it is not back by the 11th, have them send it overnight so you can be sure you have it back by your wedding.
  • That's ridiculous, my e-ring is a Kay's ring and I really hate dealing with them.  The sales associates are super pushy and whenever I bring in my ring to clean it they harass me to buy other stuff.

Oh yeah.  If I go in to pay the bill for FI's ring/gift they are always asking if I'd like to look at anything to get or if there's something I'd like that they could steer FI to (we always seem to deal with the same guy so he knows us)

JenJen - I'm totally going to do that.  I just find it so hard to believe that it'd take that long to dip my ring especially since it's so quick at my normal Kay.  I'm hoping they're just really stuck with following the rules about their 'guarentee date.'  We'll see!

I thought about it, but the issue is that I'm leaving here on Saturday morning to go to Indiana, which is where our wedding is, so I won't be back before the wedding. I don't trust it to be sent to Indiana when they are done. We've had enough trouble trying to order tuxes from out here and actually get them delivered in Indiana!! I don't want to risk it with my ring :(

I hate going in there too. We also got FI's ring from there and while it started out well, it turned annoying fast. We'd picked out a ring we loved, she was ringing us up, then realized it was discontinued AFTER charging us. UUUUUGH. So then we had to pick a new one. Everything seemed to be ok, then they called me a day later and said I need to come back in because they did something wrong...blah blah. I went back in and the lady wasn't there and the manager was like "she's not here, she's out sick" I'm like "ok, but someone needs to fix this" and the manager tried to put me on a guilt trip that this associate was out with the flu. I don't effing care, I drove 20 minutes for a reason that wasn't even told to me, DO SOMETHING about it! Finally she did, but I was seriously ready to ask for a refund at that point. In the end, we got the ring and it's fine now, but it was not a great experience.
