Videographers

So I hadn't planned on having one, but so many people have told me that you don't remember the day or details.  Anyone have an inexpensive rec?  I'm not looking for the next award winning documentary, just someone to capture the ceremony and highlights of the reception.

Girls who did get one, was it worth it?

Thanks!

I didn't get one because we waited too long and I couldn't use Adam Kegg.  That is who most girls on here recommend, although I believe his response and turnaround time can be slow because he is in such high demand.

I think this is his current info:

    Adam Kegg
    Phone: 214.418.5328
    Email: Kegg55@gmail.com

I also consulted with David at Video One and he was very nice and helpful but we ended up not using him.

Not getting Adam is one thing I would definitely change if I could.

We weren't able to get Adam, so he referred us to Autumn Video. www.autumnvideo.com
We had a great experience with them. We love our wedding video and I think it was well worth it.

When we first started planning, I didn't think wanted one.  After watching videos online, I really wanted it.

Stephie's right that Adam may be slow on the turn around time due to high demand (and I think it's also not his normal 9-5 job).  I emailed him for 3 months with no response, finally got a response and tried to set up a meeting, but then didn't get another response :(

I ended up getting a local vendor email from the Knot, contacted and met with Austin Walton and just clicked with him.  I don't know what your budget is, because Austin is more expensive then Adam, but I thought I would throw it out there.  I'm paying $1900 plus tax for 10 hour of HD coverage, 5 DVD with a montage (prep, ceremony, reception), the full ceremony, full toasts and full dances. I was tempted to add in the rehearsal as well, but Chris talked some sense into me and said that the amazing pictures from Lynn will be way more than enough to remember the rehearsal.

    Sorry so long!

I almost didn't and changed my mind a few weeks out. Adam was already booked. Actually, Austin Walton would have been my first choice- loved what I saw of his work but he was booked too. I ended up with Josh Dutton (joshdutton.net) and he did a fabulous job and is reasonable (prices on his site)! I would definitely recommend him and in retrospect I would have totally regretted not getting a video. It's nice to have the recapture and to catch things in video that you didn't get to see during the wedding or were too much of a blur.

I was researching videographers too just now.  What about whitecloud productions?  Has anyone talked to them or heard of them?

I've been trying to figure out the nicest possible way to say this, but I'll just say it.

After waiting 7 months after my wedding for my video from Adam, I was highly disappointed. I emailed him and gave him only 2 of the reasons I was disappointed and I got a pretty snotty (IMO) email back only defending one of the points.

For one, the ceremony was totally out of focus when viewed from Adam's camera. It looked fine from his assistants. The reception was so dark that you can't even make out most people's faces. Granted the room was dark, but a video can be lightened (even though he told me it couldn't), it's just a lot of work and apparently he didn't want to do it, or didn't know how. There were a number a times where he obviously stumbled and the camera bounced all over the place. Had he taken the time to over dub the music, he could have faded those parts out, but he didn't. Half of the first dance was just looking at the back of my husbands head. There was no guest interview from the grooms parents. (Kind of important, right??) One of the highlights of the night was my mom on the dance floor with one of the groomsmen. Seriously, the rest of the guest cleared the floor and we were all watching.. Adam was right there with them in their faces, yet not one second of that was on the video. Even the cover looked amateurish IMO. Granded, he seems like a nice guy and all, but not very professional when someone expresses disappointment. He did mail the original footage like I asked so that we can play with it ourselves.

Oh.. one more thing. When I followed up with him in November (got married in July), I was told that he was 60% done with my video. Then in December, I was told that I was third in his queue to work.

All in all, you get what you paid for; however, I still feel that I over-paid and if I had it to do all over again, I would have paid more and used someone else.

Thanks for the Adam review. I can't even get him to email me back.  I have emailed Josh and Austin too and nothing.  The only one I have gotten a response from is soul productions.  They seem a little pricey though.

Hi all! I haven't posted here in forever, but thought I would give my two cents on this one...I got married April 5, 2008 and used Jason Cypret for my wedding video. I love, love, LOVE my video!! Check him out http://jcproductions.com.

He and his wife work together, so if you email him, you usually get a quick reply. The only downside was that they don't really meet in person with clients (or they didn't back then). I received great recs from our coordinator though and decided to give him a shot and I am SO glad that I did!

My husband and I are one of the featured videos. Enjoy!

I've given this one a LOT of thought myself, and while I could still change my mind, we're not hiring a videographer. Instead, we're going to purchase a nice camcorder (which all have great image stabilization these days) and have FBIL do it. He won't really know anyone at the wedding, and he'd probably do it anyways. I mean, he videoed the eulogies at his father's funeral. I don't want any of the interviews, or the cheesy transitions or music. I want the ceremony, the toasts, and whatever else he feels like doing. If I want it edited, I can do it myself, otherwise we'll just have the raw footage. Maybe I'll regret it later, but that's how I feel at this point.
