Historic Courthouse experiences

I visited the Washington County Historic Courthouse in Stillwater and am considering it for my wedding. Has anyone had any experiences there? My fiance is concerned about the alcohol and the fact that we provide our own. I am curious how it has been done in the past at this location. Thanks!

I got married there last October, and I cannot say ENOUGH good things about it! I loved everything about that venue.

Why is your fiance concerned about the alcohol, exactly? I loved their alcohol policy, because, to put it bluntly... it saves you a massive amount of money if you don't have to hire a professional beverage service. I mean, yeah, it's a minsicule amount of extra work figuring out how much of everything to buy... but depending on where you buy everything from, some liquor stores will let you return unopened stuff if you order too much.

If you want the freedom to do your own thing, and as such, the potential to save tons of money... the Historic Courthouse is fantastic. If you'd rather hand more of the details over to your venue, and are okay with a lot more of your costs being set in advance... it may not be your place.

Also, I know that I was a little concerned about the mandatory security guard. I kept envisioning a grumpy looking cop sitting in the corner scowling at guests. but seriously... ours never even came into the reception hall. He sat down in the office the entire time :-)

We LOVED the courthouse! Like Maybe said, choosing it as your venue has the potentialto save you lots and lots of money because they are so hands off. That was why we chose that place-- because we had the freedom to select vendors that matched our budget and taste. We literally saved thousands by doing this.

Yes, they do have an alcohol policy that restricts had liquor. If having hard liquor is a must for you, then it might not be a good option. We didn't mind the restriction, though.  We bought all of our own alcohol (wine, beer, Mike's, B&Js, etc) from Sams Club's liquor store. We made a tally for each guest of what they'd likely drink and multiplied by 3 (assuming each would have 3 drinks and realizing that some would have less, some more). We then found someone willing to play bartender and paid him a little something to be there. Ours was a real bartender, but it doesn't have to be, just someone of age. It worked out very well and the best part was that we got to keep all of the stuff people didn't drink. We still have soda and wine coolers left from 3 months ago. Considering the fact that some places we looked at charged $100/hr for bar tenders alone, this is a fantastic bargain.

Let me know if you have any more questions about the courthouse!
