Customs/Traditions

Are there any Customs and/or Traditions that you did/are doing at your wedding?

Like family stuff?  Or the normal traditions?  Because I think everyone includes some aspect of old-fashioned traditions...

Anything in general.  Just trying to find a way to keep the board/bored alive.

    Get it?  :)

Not really...  I mean, if I listed out all the customs/taditions, I'd have a long list....  Big wedding gown, not seeing each other beforehand, not seeing each other the night before, first dance, cake cutting, speeches, bridal party dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, wedding showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, bridal party, wearing a veil, parents and bridal party gifts, exchanging of rings, something old/new/borrowed/blue, etc etc etc.

See what I mean?  Customs and traditions seems so vague and can pretty much include everything.

LOL Julie.  I think you should have to list them ALL!  :)

Maybe we should stick to special/family/cultural traditions?

As for me, other than the "normal" wedding traditions, I didn't do anything special.  Actually, I blew a lot of the normal traditions too.  I didn't do:  old/new/borrowed/blue, I saw DH before the wedding, I slept in the same room/bed as DH the night before, I had both my parents walk me down the aisle, etc.

Also, totally not related to the post AT ALL, but I noticed that Kayla is the Moderator.  Did I miss something?  I didn't realize Stebbe stepped down.  But, now that I go back and look at the board page, it still lists her as Mod.  I'm confused...

I like the question...what traditions aren't you doing better.  It seems easier that way.

We aren't doing the following "customs/traditions":

    -no bouquet/garter toss
-parents are spliiting their portion 50/50

Um, I'm sure there's more, but that's all I've got for now.

And who knows about Kayla being moderator??

Yes, I am the new moderator for the boards. My picture isn't updated yet, it should be later this week.

Maybe after they're married they jump over the broom stick for good luck?  Maybe? Just a stab in the dark.

This is a african American tradition where you jump the broom after you are married at they did in the old days to signify marriage they did not have really long elaborate ceromnies they jumped the broom! :) At least that is what I think.

Jumping the broom is generally associated with slavery as far as I know.  It fell out of favor for quite a while because of the stigma involved, but it's become popular again recently.  But, I'm pretty sure other cultures use the broom thing too.  Anyway, I think the "meaning" of jumping the broom varies, but my friends from the South said that it usually signifies who's going to be head of the household; whoever jumped the highest over the broom was head.  Seems unfair since the women are likely jumping in heels ;)
