Hawaii Flights

This may be a silly question....but, how do you work your flights out if you want to visit two of the islands?  We wanna do Oahu and the Big Island, but would you fly out of the same airport getting in and going home or fly in to one and leave from the other? Also, I assume you "island hop" via smaller planes that you can just buy tickets for when we arrive in Hawaii. Ughhh...I have no idea. Help! Thanks!

Re: Hawaii Flights

  • You can island hop. I would probably just book multi-city flights though. Fly into the first island then fly to the next one and fly home from there.

Our flight from Honolulu to Kona was packed. There wasn't an empty seat on it. Plus there was a bad weather storm so there were a ton of people that missed flights. I wouldn't wait to book the flight until you get to Hawaii.

  • We went to Kaui, Maui, and BI. The planes between the islands are actually full sized-and VERY full. There are very few direct flights from Kona to the mainland, so most likely you are going to have to fly from Kona to Oahu anyway to get back home. Price it out and see the cost of a round trip via Oahu, plus rountrip Oahu to BI vs city-to city.

And definitely book your flight in advance.

  • Websites like kayak.com/ and others usually have three options. Round Trip, One Way and Multi City. Use the Multi-City option and you can select the islands you want to go to and all the details.

  • We're flying into Maui and out of Oahu. And flying Hawaiian Air from Maui to Oahu.
