BB&B and Target registries..looking for recommendations

We're starting our registries this weekend at BB&B and Target, but I've heard some bad things about the quality of certain products at BB&B. I'm looking for some recommendations about which store might be better for certain things. Like which one has better quality towels, dishes, cookware, etc. Any suggestions/recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

  • I really don't like the towels at BBB, but we registered for our cookware there.   If you are doing Target, I would do your towels there.   Dishes are probably better at BBB if you are looking for fine china/brand.

  • At BBB, I wouldn't get anything from a brand you don't recognize.  I've found that some of their ktichen products and bath products that are from a brand I haven't heard of are generally crap.  And some of those things look nice and might be reasonable, but that's the biggest thing I would say about BBB.

For Target, they have a little more tiered system with some stuff.  I think the nicest towels you can get there are probably better than a number of department stores, but they also never go on sale for more than 10% off, so it's a tradeoff.

If you really want to do some prep work, look up reviews online of things you like or are considering.

Also, know that Target has a pretty bad reputation on here - some brides have no issues with them, but other brides have a lot of trouble with their registries disappearing, not updating, etc.  They also have a pretty small overlap (compared to other stores) of things you can buy in-store versus online.  I know that when I shop online off of Target registries there are often only a small number of things available for online purchase because the couple registered in-store, and that's a pain.

Generally, I agree with PP - BBB is fine as long as you stick to name brands you know - calphalon, cuisinart, kitchenaid, all-clad, oxo, etc are going to be the same everywhere.  They also carry china and fine crystal, flatware, and silver brands that Target doesn't carry.

All that said, their linens are sort of crap - I would do towels, bedding, etc. elsewhere.  If you look at BBB's reviews of their linens it tends to be pretty bad.  Honestly if I were you I would scrap Target and do my second registry at either Macy's or Pottery Barn, if you are interested in nice linens.  They both carry some great lines, and those registries can be rather small in comparison to BBB if you're worried about giving your guests sticker shock.

  • I've heard some bad things about Target's registry system...

We registered at BB&B and Pottery Barn.  We registered for china, crystal, kitchen stuff & appliances at BB&B.  I haven't had any problems with the quality of these things--they carry the regular name brand stuff that every department store has.  We picked them over Macys because they prices were much better for the same items.

We did Pottery Barn for towels, bedding and everyday dishes.  Their towels are really nice!

  • I would do Macy's but we don't have one anywhere near here, so that would mean people would have no choice but to shop online. We have a Dillard's, so maybe I'll do that. Everyone I know registers at Target and BB&B..I kinda just feel like that's what I'm supposed to do! Thanks for the tips ladies.

  • A girl on our local boards had crib sheets show up on her wedding registry mysteriously! She received a very concerned phone call from her FMIL, to which she had to calm down and reassure that, no, she was not pregnant.
  • Target is also notoriously bad for retruns, and once you hit a certain amount in returns you can no longer get cash back, just store credit.

BBB's has an excellent return policy - even if you don't have a receipt, just keep the item on your registry and they'll take care of it. They also will exchange or take anything back up to two years after your wedding. As far as quality of products goes, I haven't had any issues with any of my items, and I registered for most of my items at BBB. Also, my registry consultant told me that BBB stands behind its products so if we were unhappy with any product or something broke, etc, that we should just bring it back and they will either replace it or refund us the money. I do agree that there are some items that looked cheaper, but those items were lower price wise, and we decided to go up in quality on things like cookware, knives and electrics because in a lot of cases, you get what you pay for, and we wanted to get items that would last.

I believe Macy's will also return or exchange items up until 1 year and a half after your wedding. They also were decent about returns without a reciept, as they keep the info in their system. My only complaint about Macy's was the one I went to had terrible registry consultants and no one helped me. I do like the quality of the towels we got from there, and we got all our Fiestaware there as well, but only because BBB doesn't carry Fiestaware in the store.

</div><div>We had some random stuff show up on both our Macy's and BBB registries, and I've had customers who've had this happen at my store as well. If the cashier forgets to get out of the Registry function on the cash register, or the customer forgets to tell them not all the items they are purchasing are from the registry, those personal items will end up on the registry, so that's how that ends up happening. </div><div>
</div><div>But yeah, my mom would have called and freaked on me in this case as well. :)

  • I absolutely would not register for towels at BBB, we bought some last fall for when company was coming over and they were completely falling apart after being washed one time. I think Target has way nicer towels. I havent registered yet but all my IRL friends have never had any problems there. Also, you are only going to have difficulty returning items that are not on your registry. If it is on your registry, the registry acts as you receipt.

OP, if there's no Macy's nearby I would check out Dillard's instead - they have some very nice things.

OP- I agree with some of the PPs that I would maybe do BBB and a department store instead of Target. Most department stores have really good sales. I don't know how far down the FL coast you are, but if you have a Belk, I highly recommend them. Their online registry in super-easy and I've always had great experiences working with their associates.

[QUOTE]I have also seen a lot of people complain about Target's registry. We did BBB and Macy's.  We touched the towels to confirm the quality, but other then that, we just picked whatever we wanted.

  • We did Target, BBB and Kohls. No problems from Target or BBB but Kohls has been awful. Luckily we didn't register for much there! We had a comforter on our registry there and if it was out of stock, they would automatically change it to a duvet (same design) then change it back to the comforter if it came back in stock. That's just one example!

We had a crib show up on ours. Three times. Even after deleting. It was annoying.
