Videography!!

Have you decided to have a videographer? If so, how much are you paying? What made you decide to have one?

We are having a videographer, oddly enough it was one of the first vendors we lined up. We're paying $900 for a full day of recording. FI was adimant about having one, he loves to watch the video from his sister's wedding because he can see and hear his grandmothers and his uncle who passed away before we started dating. He wants to make sure that we can do the same thing for anyone who passes on after our wedding. Plus my friend's daughter loves to watch her mother's wedding video so I can see our future children doing the same thing. :)

• At this point in time, we're not doing videography (I just don't think I'd watch it much...). However, my dad might be able to get us a deal (he works for a local news station so he knows people). I'm leaving it up to him.

• We decided to do a video too. We weren't going to at first, but my best friend had both photo and video done of her wedding last year and she likes the video way better than the photos. Plus, I found this guy that makes really cool wedding videos. He makes them into "movie trailers" complete with a "movie poster." So fun! Here's his website if you are interested. http://www.dreamcliponline.com/ I got him to give me the wedding package two, which is listed at $1,600, for $1,000 and to throw in a free movie poster. Make sure you negotiate if you decide to do it! Smile

• I'm not going to. Part of me thinks that it would be really fun/cool to have something like that but then the other part of me says... realistically, when would I ever watch it? I'll put photos up in the house that I know I will be looking at regularly but a video? Meh, not so much. If I did come up with another grand to blow of miscellaneous wedding stuff I might consider it, but right now I don't find it necessary.
• We decided against doing a video. Our thought was that we would probably only watch it a handful of times and then it would just sit there and it was a lot of money for us to not use it. There are other things we'd rather spend the money on at the end of the day.
• Yes.... DD's college roomie (it was her major & she currently produces for CMT) has offered it for her wedding gift!! So total cost = FREE!!! Smile
• We are using Wedit. That way we have a video, but its MUCH cheaper and its a fun 'home movie' style collection of a lot of people's POVs
• i'm still torn. right now we're leaning towards buying a couple handcams and just giving them to people/having them set up at church.

We are. I was on the fence but after talking to my married friends we decided to go for it. The video will capture things that we will miss on our wedding and it will be nice to be able to hear our vows and the speeches again.

We are paying $1,000 for a full day (getting ready included) and we will get a highlight clip (5-10 minutes) and then snippets of video organized by chapter.

It must just be my area then because we've been quoted upwards of $1500!?!

yeah, my FI has been handling videography, since he's more into it than me, but most places he's shown me have packages starting around $2,000.
• Try a local college. We are having a videographer, I was fairly adamant I wanted one. I just think it would be neat to have for future kids and grandkids. But, I will also say that we are only getting one because we found one for $850 that includes from 4 p.m.-12 p.m., a movie trailer, 5 DVDs of the entire event, and a flash drive copy! It is a steal! He is a local college student who is recently graduated and trying to get some experience under his belt, but his videos are just as high quality as a professional of 20+ years.

• I think it would be neat to have a video, but it's just not in our budget and I'm not willing to cut other things to fit it in there.

• We're having a videographer for the ceremony for $400. Not too bad for us.

This is pretty much what I found in the Chicago Suburbs as well. We did not budget for a videographer but I found someone at a reasonable price comparatively and we decided to book it. Everyone I have talked to who got married and didn't have one said that was the one thing they wished they had. Even if we don't watch it all the time, I think I will enjoy watching the dances, speeches, ceremony, etc. every year. You can't put that on a wall! lol

We are using Shilo Studios out of Aurora, IL. http://www.shilohstudio.biz/Shiloh_Studio/Wedding_Main.html

They have several packages, the least expensive being $800. I also looked into Robert Cawthorne who another Chicago knottie used and liked. You can always try to negotiate pricing, the worst they can say is no. Good luck!

• For my first wedding, we just had my uncle use our camcorder. It was perfect (and FREE!) because I got to see parts that I missed...like all of our guests arriving, my XH having his pictures taken with his guys, and then the cocktail hour after the ceremony. I'm SO GLAD I had him videotape, especially things like "interviewing" our family and friends. I (obviously) don't plan on watching that wedding video again, but if I do it'll only be to watch the parts where our family and friends are talking.

I'm planning on asking him if he'll do the same thing for this wedding.

For those of you who don't want to hire a videographer, I strongly urge you to at least have a family member or friend record at least the ceremony for you.

• I have a friend getting married in June who is using this: http://storymixmedia.com/

I can't speak to how well it works, but you rent x cameras from them. Then you ship them back the cameras and they edit everything for you. Could be an option for those who want a video but don't have the budget.
• A videographer was one of the first things I booked. My grandfather is disabled and unable to travel and it was really important to me that we have a video that we could watch together with him. Plus, it will be really nice to have for us.

Videographers in my area aren't cheap, unfortunately, unless I went with a student, which I did not want to do. We are paying almost $2000 Cry but we will get a full days coverage with personal interviews, as well as full coverage of the ceremony and reception, including the toasts and first/father-daughter dances.

• I voted love to, but can't afford. If we had plenty of extra money (after bar upgrades etc) then we would probably do one. Right now we're thinking of just having a family member or friend do it on the cheap just to have the ceremony. I'd like to at least see what it looks like before I come out since I'll miss all of that.
