Centerpiece Help

On Thursday my mom, grandma, and myself started working on our centerpieces. We filled 50 bowls with stones, wrapped them in ribbon, and cut 150 flowers to the size we need. Right now we are currently trying to figure out how to incorporate the peacock feathers.

This is what my grandma made, I personally do not like it and think it looks messy. The bushy looking stuff is called "stadus" I might be spelling it wrong. Any suggestions on how to make this look good?

Re: Centerpiece Help

  • I like the look of the vase/flower setup, but what I don't love is the color choices. With the aqua ribbon and peacock feather, I think flowers in greens, whites, purples and possibly a gold would tie it all together.

    This is from pinterest:

Most there are green/yellow/blue flowers - not much pink. Some just use feathers (no flowers), and some use a green moss as well.

  • Its hard to tell from the picture, but the ribbon is the same color as the teal in the peacock feather and very similar to the BM dresses. Those are my colors so there is no changing that. I just cant figure out how to put them together to make them look good and not a mess thrown together.

  • what about adding some tall grass or something to give the floral aspect height like the feather?

  • I was thinking maybe something like this instead of the bushel of what is added http://www.afloral.com/Silk-Wedding-Flowers/filler-flowers-artificial-berries/30-Cream-Sweetpea

  • I think that would be pretty - and adding more height will encorporate the feather much better

  • The proportions feel off to me, maybe it's just the few flowers, rather than it being full.  Are you die-hard with the gerber daisy?  To me it's such a wide feather and wide flowers.  If you can find "daintier" feathers that are a bit taller, that may help.

There's a method in flower arranging called the "rule of three." This article may help: http://www.countrywomanmagazine.com/home-garden/gardening-guide/how-to-arrange-flowers/

Also, just because those are your colors, doesn't mean you have to have them all together in every decoration.  I would probably stick to just the cream/white and peacock. Or find a flower, like a rose (or a carnation if you are cost concious) that has a pink/peach edging.

I bought all the flowers already. The peacock feathers came after. The feathers aren't all cut, just that one. Im set on those flowers, they are my favorite and the colors are staying too, since I've bought other things for decorations that match these colors. The feathers can be trimmed to be smaller and not so big also.

Im just looking for ideas for fillers (not like the ones that are in there) to make it look nice and not a mess. Im not looking to change the flowers or take out the peacock feathers.

I like the idea of baby's breath (or something similar) for the filler.

I don't think that you need to just use the teal and cream, but I HATE anything that is matchy matchy.  Pink and teal are cute together!

Please don't take it personally, you asked for suggestions to make it look better and didn't ask for filler suggestions only.  If you're set on your colors, by all means use them, it's your wedding.

I think if you can add a bit more fullness to the edge of the vase it'll help. Gypsophila has a nice fullness while still being airy and ethereal.  Also, maybe just some greenery, leaves spilling over the edge could be a nice touch.

Also, you may want to try filling your vase with sand and then using the rocks towards the top (it'll hide your stems really well and make them super stable on your tables).

Can't wait to see your final version!
