First big WTF- kind of long.

I'll try to explain this as best/short as possible.

A few weeks after the engagement I started researching hotels and wedding services in Ft Myers. We were there in Nov and liked the beach at Holiday Inn because they brought in there own sand. It was very powdery and clean. A lot of Ft Myres beach is very shell-y and rough. SO originally wanted our date to be Nov 6 2010. Event coordinator at HI says we can't because they are hosting the annual Sand Sculpting Festival. Whatever. He says the following weekend is available. So we change it to Nov 14th. I ended up not using HI directly for our ceremony because they didn't offer much for the price. We instead hired a wedding service that takes care of officiate/photog/flowers/decor and working with the beach site/hotel. We find out this weekend the Sand Sculpting thing is now the same weekend as our wedding. WTF! This was the WHOLE reason for moving our date!!! STD's already out, people have already requested off work...

Apparently this Sand thing is a big deal. People come from all over. It gets crazy busy there.  Now what?

Re: First big WTF- kind of long.

  • Awwww.. sorry about that!   Are your guests going to be able to get a good deal on their accomodations despite the fact that there's an event going on?  Hotels tend to hike up their prices during those things right?!?

    I hope you get it worked out!

    :::: hugs ::::
  • That sand sculpture thing is a big deal - and really awesome to watch.  If you are able to have the wedding the same weekend, it might actually work out because the guests could get to see all the neat sculptures.

    On the other hand - I can imagine how stressful this is for you!  I hope it works out.
    I think since the date is fine, and the officiate/etc. is fine, I would keep all of that and just find another hotel.  The sand might not be as nice, but I doubt anyone would really notice that.  They'll be focused on you and your husband!
  • Wow.  I would be infuriated!!!

    Can you call the Holiday Inn and explain how badly you were misinformed by their staff?  Then I would tell them that they need to compensate for their gaffe by offerring your guests a very low rate on rooms.
