I have a few questions regarding ushers. I am having my four best friends as my bridesmaids and FI is having his four best friends as his groomsmen. Neither of us have any sisters. I have one brother and he has two. We decided we didn't want him to have seven groomsmen (his guys plus our brothers) so we decided we would have the three brothers be ushers! It sounded perfect to us (our parents don't love the idea, but it'll grow on them!) The more I think about it, the more questions I have. We do want it to be like they are part of the wedding party, but still be able to tell the difference between the two groups of guys. Where do they stand during the ceremony? Are they in the pictures? How do we incorporate that while not making it seem like they are groomsmen? Where do they sit at the reception?
I know all of this is up to us, but I was hoping to get as many thoughts as I could. Also any other opinions about ushers would be great!! Thanks all!

Re: Usher Etiquette/Questions
Usually ushers wear suits and not tuxes (if you are dressing your GMs in tuxes). So they do look different. AFAIK, they are seated during the ceremony.
My brother will be in family pictures and probably a few of just the two of us.

Typically, ushers sit in the front during the ceremony, maybe in the row behind your parents. You put them in whatever pictures you want. Typically, they don't rent a tux, so you could tell the difference since they won't be dressed like the GM. You can also give them a different type of bout. At the reception, they (like everyone) should be seated with their dates at a table with their friends/family.
I agree with Emily, though. I think this is silly, and it would be much better to add them to your two sides of the WP. I can see why your parents are upset at the visible snub to siblings.
