April 2012 Weddings

Some good, some bad

The good thing is that it's really starting to feel real now, we received our invitations yesterday and they are perfect! So excited! But definitely starting to feel anxious and nervous too....I know some of you are with me.

The bad thing is I still need to find myself some shoes. I've probably ordered a dozen pairs. I really wanted a purple shoe, so the first several pairs were purple heels. Then I had to keep going down in heel heights. I'm not so good in heels lol I thought I found the perfect purple heel but when I had a fitting with my mom and sister (before my actual first fitting) I found the inch and a half heel was too high, you could see my whole foot :( So I ordered a new shoe with the tiniest kitten heel that were still purple and still cute and went to my first fitting at David's. The shoe still didn't work! The seamstress and my consultant said I absolutely couldn't have a heel. They were trying to pull the bottom of my dress down to cover my feet. My consultant wondered why we didn't order extra length. I'm kind of regretting that now. At the time (June 2011) she had said it was pointless to order extra length because I'd be throwing money away. An extra $50 for the extra length and $120 to hem the dress. So I've looked for flats and haven't liked any of the purple flats I see. I ordered a pair of flat sandals with gold beading, couldn't get my foot in with the straps. So I've made a plan to go with my sister on Sunday to a store where they dye shoes and maybe I'll find some flats that I can dye purple that I will like. This has been so frustrating :(

  • That sucks :(  I'm guessing you didn't try on your dress with heels when you bought it?  I would think that the consultant, being a bridal consultant would have realized that wearing a heel is going to bring the hem of the dress up a little bit, but I guess you can't really do anything about that now.

Have you tried looking online?  Amazon, endless, DSW are all good places to look for shoes.  Or maybe the dyables will work for you.  GL!  You will find some shoes.

  • If you can't find flats in the purple you like, or can't get them dyed the correct color, find a pair of comfortable flats and superfine purple glitter, and glitter them. I did my shoes and my MOH's, and they turned out amazing!!! It's a slow process, but the end result is so awesome that now I'm also doing it to my Jr. Bridesmaid's shoes.

Breathe - in the grand scheme of things, shoes are a very small thing. Look at it this way - all of us in our gorgeous heels will end up taking our shoes off and putting on flats because our feet, knees, etc. will end up hurting too much - you're already ahead of us!

  • Thanks girls! I did try on the dress initially with heels, maybe the sample was just all stretched out lengthwise lol I have been looking at all of those websites for months, maybe I'm being too picky. I went to Famous Footwear, Macy's, and Kohl's yesterday, they both had nothing for me. I'm going to try DSW and Off Broadway Shoes this weekend. Flats have never been my friend, I have yet to find a comfortable pair for my feet. I'm hoping to find an open flat sandal type shoe that I can maybe get dyed. I have a wide range of purples I can dye them. My wedding colors are jade green and purples :)

  • Oo I feel your pain! I pretty much only wear flats (being 5'10" and not in love with my height and all.... oh and my fiance is 5'10" on a good day).

I found a really cute pair of flats at Off Broadway, so glad you are going there! Check online, they usually have printable coupons you can use in advance :)

I ended up splurging on a Rue La La sale for Kate Spade shoes, so keep your eyes peeled for those!

Also-- just as a little confidence booster--now that it is coming to Spring/Summer shoes in stores you'll have a lot more to choose from! I've noticed a lot of change in the shoe selection since I work near a DSW and pop in frequently. Good luck!!
