Re: Bridal Showers Poll

  • Good call!  I keep checking back each day to see if there is any movement haha!

-Have you had a bridal shower yet?  Not yet...still a year and 5 months out lol.  I'm an early bird planner :)
-How far in advance of your wedding is/was it?
There is talk of having it in July...my wedding is Sept 21
-How many shower(s) will/did you have total? It will be one big one.  FI's aunt has a large house and loves throwing parties so she wants to have one big one to interact the extended family and friends!
    -Who's hosting/ hosted? FI's aunt
-If you've had one: any fun games, stories or gifts you received?
-Did you cry? I cried when she said she'd throw it...does that count? haha

  • -Have you had a bridal shower yet?   Nope.
-How far in advance of your wedding is/was it?   Probably like 2 months before?
-How many shower(s) will/did you have total? One big one
-Who's hosting/ hosted? FMIL and my mom are doing it together
-If you've had one: any fun games, stories or gifts you received? I haven't had mine yet but I like the game where everyone writes a piece of advice on an index card. Some are sweet but others are just hilarious. Every 30min or so one is picked out and read and that person gets a little prize/gift.
-Did you cry? I'm going to predict no, but this whole wedding thing is turning me into quite a sappy person so who knows! lol

  • I'll play!

-Have you had a bridal shower yet?  Yep
-How far in advance of your wedding is/was it? Hmm they were about a two months before the wedding.
-How many shower(s) will/did you have total? I had two.
-Who's hosting/ hosted? My MIL/H's grandmother hosted one and my friends (BM's) hosted the other
-If you've had one: any fun games, stories or gifts you received? My favorite game is "gift bingo" You fill out a bingo card with gifts you think the bride will receive and you get to cross them out as she opens gifts.  You really kill two birds w/one stone--playing a game and getting through the opening of gifts :) My favorite gifts were the Cuisinart Griddler and a unity candle that my MIL had made for us.
    -Did you cry? Nah
  • Can I "cut in" as a MOB and soon to be MOG??  I have helped to host several showers, and we have used three games that have been successful even among widely different groups of women.

The "Price is Right" game can be fun, and incredibly competititve.  You purchase items within a wide range of prices (we went between  50 cents and $10) that fit in with the shower "theme" or color scheme.  For my daughter, all the gifts were either pink, zebra striped, or pink zebra striped.  For my soon to be DIL, the gifts were either yellow, chocolate, or shoe related.  We hold each item up for "bid" and the guest writes down what they think the item cost.  Once all items have been viewed and guessed, values are disclosed, one at a time.  Closest to the price wins.  It was very funny to see who really wanted what!  Items can be anything and everything from yellow cake mix or Juicy Fruit gum, to hair accessories, notepads, flip flops......we even found a silver shoe that functioned as a bottle opener!  Items can be literal (yellow notepad) to implied (Yellow Tail wine).  We had just as much fun searching out items for the game as we did playing the game.

Because my future DIL is such a foodie, we also played a "Guess the Spice" game.  We bagged a variety of different spices in small, individual ziploc bags.  (The Fresh Market has really nice, small bags.)  The spices ranged from easy (cinnamon) to harder to distinguish (cayenne and paprika), to the "I never heard of it" spices (marjoram or other unusual spices).  In the eleventh hour we decided to include an "answer bank" to our worksheets, but obviously included more spices than were necessary.  There were lots of fun comments about hoping a police car doesn't drive by as it looked like half the guests were "snorting", as well as some serious sneezing!  It was also a lot of fun.

Finally, we did play a semi-naughty game (but we knew our "audience" well) wherein you answer a seemingly benign question, such as "What household chore do you dread/hate the most and why?".  Once we used, "I hate ironing because _______________" and once we used, "I hate doing laundry because _____________".  Once the sheets are filled out, the original question is replaced with, "I dread having sex because ____________"....and then you read the original answer to that.  This game works best when no one is familiar with the "gimmick".  The answers can be ridiculous and hilarious!

  • -Have you had a bridal shower yet?  Yes
-How far in advance of your wedding is/was it? The family/friends one was 2 months before the wedding.  The co-workers one was 2.5 weeks before.
-How many shower(s) will/did you have total? 2 total.
-Who's hosting/ hosted? My mom and sister hosted the family/friends one and my co-worker/bridesmaid hosted the work one.
-If you've had one: any fun games, stories or gifts you received? We played bridal bingo at one of the showers and the words we used were words that my fiance and I used to describe eachother and our relationship.  At both showers I received recipes cards that were filled out by each of the guests.  I loved that as I am a horrible cook and this gives me new things to try out.

Did you cry? I totally cried at the family/friends one.  =)

  • Mobkaz- those are some fun ideas!  We considered the spice game for a shower I co-hosted.  Aimee- we played bridal bingo too.  I think it's fun and a great way for guests not to get board during gift opening

-Have you had a bridal shower yet?  Yea

-How many shower(s) will/did you have total? 2

-How far in advance of your wedding is/was it? The first was about 3 months before and the second was a month and a half before

-Who's hosting/ hosted? The first was hosted by my bridesmaids and their moms; it was in my hometown area.  The second was hosted by the mother of my FG, my SIL and MIL and was in Chicago

-If you've had one: any fun games, stories or gifts you received? All guests were asked to write a card for advice on a successful relationship and otherwise at the first shower we didn't do any other games.

Although, we did have some entertainment while I opened gifts.  One of my BMs had sent a 20-question survey to my then FI (what did he want to be growing up, how many kids did he want, etc).  Before every gift I opened I had picked a question out of a basket then BM had asked FI.  I then had to give the answer I thought he would have given.  For every wrong answer, I had to chew a piece of bubblegum.  I didn't do so hot and in the end I had 8 pieces of bubble-licious in my mouth!!

At the second shower we matched the love quotes to the movie they were from and also played a memory-type game (MIL and SIL gifted me a towel cake with small registry items on it and it was taken out of the room and we had to write down as much as we could remember that was on the cake)

-Did you cry? I cried a little at the first shower, once when reading aloud a few of the advice cards and the second when opening gifts. My grandma had hand embriodered two pillowcases as part of my gift. It's a tradition she's down for the 3 prior grandkids before me to get married and growing up I'd always told her how I couldn't wait for a set, so it was sentimental!
