Funny Mardi Gras story.

When did Nola see her first peen? Mardi Gras, of course.

Mardi Gras is really for families, believe it or not. My dad and uncles would wake up at 3 in the morning EVERY MG to hold our spot on Canal St. We had the same spot every year along with other famiilies that we came to know over the years.

It's always so much fun. We would stay all day for Zulu, Rex, and the truck parades. Anyway, the kids could NOT walk down Canal ST. We had to stay in our spot. Canal street is wilder than other areas like St. Charles because it's closer to Bourbon Street. Plus, back in the day Blacks weren't really encouraged to watch parades on St. Charles. That's changed now, but this was the case in the past.

We would always want to walk to see the sights, but no. So, one year I had to go to the bathroom so bad. The bathroom is an issue during MG. Either you have to pay to use one, know someone that lives in the area or use a port-a-potty.

When I was about 8 or 9, my  mom walked me down the street to Burger King, and of course I saw sights along the way. All I remember is this man in a black costume walking with his business hanging out. Of course, Mom slapped her hands over my eyes before I could really stare, but I remember doing the head tilt, and being dragged down the street as I tried to get a better look.

I was about 15 before I was allowed to "walk" down Canal Street for MG.
