Boat Ceremony/Reception

So, we're looking into renting a small boat for our ceremony and reception. It will hold about 75 people. I'm just wondering if anyone has any photos of anything remotely similar? I've been having a difficult time envisioning the decorations and it's been very hard finding pictures online.
Thanks!

Re: Boat Ceremony/Reception

  • My best friend did this and I was her MOH.  I think there were 75-100 people.  She really didn't do any decorating at all because the boat was the boat, there just wasn't any need to decorate it and there weren't tables really for centerpieces or anything.  I have tons of pictures, but I'm not sure what you would want to see...

  • I really wanted to do this, but my dad, grandmother, and aunt all get horrible motion sickness and would have been ill the entire time so it wasn't even an option for us. What a great idea for your wedding!

Ditto pp's you won't need to decorate much since the beautiful scenery will be all around you.

[QUOTE]the nice thing about a boat is you do not really have to decorate. The outside view is more than enough.

    Agreed.

And make sure all the major players are cool with a boat.  If I was invited to a wedding on a boat, I'd have to decline.  Seasickness is yucky during your wedding.
  • I get really sea sick too, but I just stuck a Dramamine patch behind my ear and I was perfectly fine.

I think a boat would be awesome. My mom gets super sea sick on boats that don't move fast, but the patch is perfect for her. The only other concern I'd have is people who don't normally get sick on boats, hence are not equipped with dramamine, drink a bit then start barfing.

I know in NYC, the started booze cruises a few years ago and I always hear what nightmares they are b/c combining alcohol with the motion of the ocean and the stench of about 100 people puking... well you get the idea.

I've never experienced it though, so I would just ask around to those who have. Also, the only other issue is the weather. If you plan everything on the boat, there really is no rain option. It's not like you would have a place to move it inside. If  you go through a yacht club, they may have a reception room for a rain location.
  • We are planning our wedding on a boat and will do minimal decorations. They already offer beautiful seascape laterns and seashells for centerpieces, and we will probably do seashell garlands and maybe paper lanters for the dancefloor.

What I love about our boat (and all the others we were looking at, actually) is that they have covers they can close up if the weather is bad, and heat the decks. If not we'll be totally open. Make sure your boat has that option too.
