marrage license question

Alright, we are t minus 60 days today.  FI and I have a lunch date this friday to go get our marriage license.  What exactly do we need to take?  The fee is $60 now right? And does anyone know where in Durham to go get it? I'm assuming downtown.

Here in Wilmington you go to the Register of Deeds (which for us is located downtown). You can probably google "Durham, register of deeds" to find out exactly where they are located & if that is where you should go for your marriage license.

I believe all counties are the same in NC as to what they require and it is the following:
Certified copy of birth certificates for both bride & groom
Copy of SS# (we used our SS cards) for both bride & groom (I believe some places accept a W-2 or paystub with your SS#).
Driver's license or form of ID that includes your birth day for both bride & groom
$60 for the marriage license + $10 for each certified copy you want (you'll be required to get at least 1, I believe) = at least $70
We had to provide info on who is performing your ceremony + their contact address as well in case they don't return your paper work in time.

And I believe that's it. As long as no one else is before you, it took us a whopping 5 minutes to get it all finished.

Allie, I called them on this awhile back, it is the register of deeds in Durham. It's in the old courthouse building downtown. But I don't know what you need to take with you.

    Good Luck!

Yep I agree with everyone. It didn't take us long at all to get done!

I'm going to piggy back on Allie's question.

What county do you need to get your marriage license?  The county you are getting married in or the county you live in?

    In NC it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the info girls. Wow, I have to dig some stuff up!

We are getting our license in Durham County but getting married on the coast.  It doesn't matter as long as it's in state.
