Wedding dress advice

Sorry if this has been asked before but I didn't find anything on it. I am hopefully going dress shopping in the next few weeks. What I was wondering is should I limit my searches for dresses with smaller skirts? Would a full skirt, crinolin etc be difficult to transport on a plane? I don't want to find a beautiful dress only for it not to work out.

Re: Wedding dress advice

  • I would not eliminate any stye that you like just because of transportation problems. If you love the style you will find a way to transport it.

The couple dress stores I have been to have been.very helpful in knowing what travels best for ur needs!!
  • I would get the dress you love and would feel comfortable on your wedding day (i.e. beach wedding may want different material). Most airlines will let you take your dress as a carry on.

I agree...don't compromise your dream dress for the sake of easy travel.  I've heard of a few girls that used a vacuum seal bag to transport their dress easily in their carry on bags and having it steamed at the resort (depending on the fabric the dress will come out good as new) and others were given the option by the crew to hang their dresses in their closets.

    (lol...i orginally said captain's closet :-\)

  • Some of the brides on here used the space bags to compact the size of their dress and then had it steamed at the location to take out any wrinkles, so that's an option too
  • Get the style you love!! My airline gave me an entire overhead bin for my dress! It was considered one of my carry-ons though Some airlines have closets they will put your dress in. You can always have it steamed at the resort or you could bring a travel steamer with you. We arrived 5 nights before the ceremony, I just left it in the closet and there was not one crease or wrinkle in my dress by the ceremony day.

  • Get your dream dress.  try everything on just as you would for an at home wedding.  You don't want to have dress regret.  Like the others have said, you can get a vaccum bag and make it more compact for travel and then steam it when you get to your destination.

  • Get the dress that makes you feel the most beautiful and comfortable. It's probably not a good idea to limit yourself on the style of the dress. Im pretty sure any dress you pick  will work out trave-wise.

  • Try on everything you want to and figure out what looks best on you and what you love. I tired on one of those huge dresses and knew there was no way I would want to wear it. I was so hot in it within 3 minutes of putting it on. Couldn't imagine wearing it in the heat. Especially all day. Not to mention is weighed a ton!
  • Where is Brea... haha. She put her dress in a space bag and got it steamed when she got to Hawaii and you couldn't tell the difference! Don't let that get in your way, but like Kimmy said, I think it's important to think about how comfortable you will be in the dress. It will all come together and you will know THE ONE when you put it on!
