Limo situation

I didnt know exactly where to post this but, here goes...

My bridesmaids and I are staying in Bristol, RI the night before the wedding and getting married at Blithewold. Groomsmen will also be in Bristol.

I keep receiving these CRAZY costs for limo services. My issue is, if we were traveling a long distance I wouldnt mind chalking up the cash. However, we need a limo to get us (both parties) to the venue (approx. 5 miles max from pick up location) and then to drop us all off at the end of the night for late night partying downtown (approx. another 5 miles).

Maybe someone has a better idea for this. I dont want my party driving downtown after drinking during the reception, so that crosses off the possibility of everyone driving on their own to our location. I also cannot have everyone drive to the ceremony/reception because then... what would they do with their cars at the end of the night after the wedding if we take a limo downtown?! They cannot be left at the ceremony/reception location.

I have been quoted about 650$ for 4 hours of use, and then 75$ per hour after that. Maximum I would need the limo for is about 2 hours total for the entire event, once to pick us all up (first bridesmaids then groomsmen) to take us to the ceremony/reception sight, and then once more at the end of the reception to take us all downtown. Paying someone to twiddle their tumbs for 5 hours inbetween seems really silly.

Any input or ideas would be awesome! I also could be totally confused on how limo services work. haha Thanks everyone :)

Re: Limo situation

  • I ran into the same problem, and the only way they would book me, was to have them twiddle their thumbs.  I ended up doing the Newport Trolley for a total of 4 hours.  They are going to pick up the guys and take them to the church, then come get me and the gals, take us to the church and then take the whole wedding party to the reception(with some guys having to stop to get their cars).  In order for them to stay and take people after the reception, I would have had to pay for a total of 10 hours.  Soooooo, the only thing I can think of is to arrange for the limo to take you all to Blithewold and then you might have to arrange for some other mode of transportation for after partying.... Sorry if this isnt much help, but I know I came across the same problem.

How dumb! haha It might be worth us to take take cabs TO the reception/ceremony site, then to take a limo all out after downtown. I wanted the trollie so bad, but they were all booked for my night :( id rather celebrate in a limo after the wedding than to drive in one to Blithewold when no one will really be seeing me. Thanks so much for your input!
  • Transportation was one of the most difficult parts for me. I don't have any solutions for you but just wanted to say I sympathize. We ended up booking an executive van for our one way transport through Rockstar and we are paying by the hour. Not sure if you have considered the less popular vehicles since they will be more likely to do it by the hour. Otherwise your idea on cabs would work. GL!
  • I think this is going to be an issue with any limo company. No one is going to book you for 2 hours in the beginning and and hour after or something like htat, because they will book someone else that can be booked for the solid time. In between the limo wouldn't be able to be used for another event...so they would want to logistically book your event for a solid time frame... make sense?
I would just keep searhcing for more affordable limos. Le CHic, Sentinel are both affordable limo companies.

this happened to us as well, we are getting ready 2 miles away from our ceremony site and 3 miles from our reception site- and I ended up having to book it for 5 hours solid.

  • Yup, as PP said, I had the same issue. Maybe consider renting an executive van instead - might be cheaper. Or a school bus? Not as classy, but definitely fun! Or a cab could also work.
    GL!

  • Are you staying at a hotel and do they have a shuttle that can get you to the wedding site? Then you could book a limo for after the ceremony.

Also, when does your wedding end? Most brides are exhausted and ready for bed by the time the reception ends.

If you have a lot of people staying at a hotel see if you can have one of the large common rooms for an after party. That's what my family did and it worked out perfectly. They took all the left over beer and bought some more and had a blast in their PJs and wedding gear. Then all they had to do was hop up to their rooms and nobody was driving.
