do i use shower gift

I'm having my bridal shower on Saturday.  I know with gifts for the wedding that you get early you are not supposed to use them, but I cant find anything about shower gifts.  Can I use a shower gift before the wedding? After the thank you cards are promptly sent out, of course.  The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting a cookware set, and my current one is trashed.

thanks!

The same rule applies to shower gifts/engagement gifts, etc. Essentially, any gift given relating to your wedding should not be used until the wedding is over. Have a fabulous time at your shower!

A shower gift is essentially a wedding gift, and the same rules apply.  Don't use them.

I'm confused by PPs... you get the gift at the shower, oftentimes people will give both a gift at the shower AND a gift at the wedding (at least, that's what I've always seen), so how is a shower gift the same as a wedding gift?

The only reason I can think of for waiting is in case the wedding is called off between the shower and the wedding. Which... of course no one thinks it's going to happen to them, but sh*t happens. pretty sure i remember seeing something somewhere on TK about someone hinting to the ex-bride that shower gifts should be returned and got the response, "everyone else said i could keep them". Which... is rude. However, if you've already used them you wouldn't be able to give them back. So I stll agree with PPs, although the reasoning confuses me.

Shower gifts are given to a bride in honor of her upcoming wedding.

Just as with a wedding gift, if the wedding does not take place, she is not a bride and the gift needs to be returned.

Often the difference between the two only has to do with cost and possibly the user.  Some people think that shower gifts are for the bride and wedding gifts are for the couple.

Generally I buy a less expensive gift for the shower than for the wedding.  They're both really for the wedding as a whole - one happens to be given at a more intimate gift giving party.  The other the hub and I send to the couple.
