Recommendation for those of us with FIL problems

I discovered this blog (<----- clicky) a few months ago (before my in-laws started being problematic) written by a woman with terrible in-laws. She has nicknamed them Sly and Doris, and she catalogues their escapades here. Although, since she's managed to limit contact with them, her later posts cover a lot of her past experiences with family and dating and such. She is an extremely funny writer, and I now find the blog to be a bit cathartic. If you want to read the wedding related things, start with the oldest posts (2010).

In related news, the FILs are now planning on not attending the reception or the rehearsal dinner. I've decided not to care.

Re: Recommendation for those of us with FIL problems

  • I will definitely check out the blog. FFIL has clearly stated that he does not know if he will be coming and we likely won't know for sure until the day of. This is due to him not getting along with other family members (including FI's siblings) who will attend. He even asked FI if he would care, which was code for "I want you to beg me to come and cater to my every wish." He's also the one trying to convince us that (after 10 years together) we shouldn't get married.
  • Oh I totally need this. I had a break down over my ILS this week who I like to call "care less" and "care even less". They are the most selfish peoplem OI have ever met and it doesnt bother fiance because as he siad "I have lived with 25 years of disappointments because my parents put themselves first and their kids fourth or fifth at lbest"
