How far in advance for florist and cake?

So it seems that I've totally abandoned the knot timeline. I was wondering how far in advance you ladies are finding your cake baker and florist. We've got the venue and caterer figured out. And, my dress has been ordered.

I had 10 months from the time we got engaged to our wedding day. I confirmed vendors in this order and it seemed to work because they built on each other to help guide the overall feel for our day. Reception, ceremony, DJ (because he did my sister's and we knew we wanted him AND because he gets booked fast), photographer, videographer, florist, dress and bridesmaids dresses, cake. When we met with florists, they wanted to know the general feel of what we were going for, like colors, theme, etc. Budget is also important. Meeting with our florist helped solidify some of ideas I had. So overall, I'd say once you have a solid vision for how you want the day to look, go ahead and start picking a florist. And for the cake, it's never too early to visit bakeries and taste their cakes!

I put both of those things off until 6 months out... no real reason why.. i think i just needed a break after booking all the big things (church, venue, photographer, DJ). So once you get those big things booked.. if you still got the energy, I'd say your safe to dive right into looking for florists and bakeries!

Also, I didn't encounter any troubles looking at 6 months out with any of the florists or bakeries that I talked to being booked on my date.

I actually just booked my cake and florist last weekend, and I'm just about 6 months out.

I booked my florist right after the venues, photog, and dj at probably about 10ish months to a year out. The cake comes with my wedding package at my venue so I didn't need to find a baker.

I just got the florist squared away this week and I'm about 7 months out but we took care of the cake really early. We got engaged in August and I had a particular baker in mind so I called her in September and she was already booked for 10/15/11! She said she even had bookings for 2012 already. So I immediately looked around and booked the baker by early October. We also did this early on because we were having a hard time finding a DJ that was available (we went through 6 before finding one that was even available, let alone who we liked) so we wanted to make sure we got exactly what we wanted.

I met with one florist yesterday and have another meeting on Thursday and I passed the six month mark last week.  I have yet to contact a baker, so I better get on that.  September is apparently a really popular month to get married, but I haven't had any issues with any vendors yet, except for the hotel block, but that was because of a Pitt game, and everything has been booked for months.

I just sent in my deposit for the florist last week, meet with a few earlier this month and we are 6 months out as well. My cake comes with my reception package, but we have yet to go and discuss what we want.

I am currently figuring out the cake... don't follow my lead. :)

Our florist, I booked them about 5-6 months out.

The only item I will not compromise on...my bouquet of all purple tulips wrapped in a swatch from my Mom's wedding dress.

I'm at just about a year out, and about to book a florist.  Cake comes with my venue, so I have no idea on that on.

Florist - was a preferred vendor of our reception site - so we booked about 11 months ahead.  I actually need to meet with them soon to go over more details, since we basically just sketched out a plan when we first met.  Cake - actually the last big vendor we booked - about 7 months before our wedding.
