His attire costs more than mine!

This is really just a frivolous post, but I find it amusing that my fiance's wedding attire cost over half of what mine did!  Granted, I bought my dress from J.Crew on sale, and we both LOVE what we are wearing, respectively...but still!  Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: His attire costs more than mine!

  • We haven't gotten to my fiance's attire yet BUT, I called my bridal salon because I plan on ordering my dress soon.  Well the veil I picked out costs $520 and my dress only costs $950.  I found it interesting that one piece of fabric costs over half of my entire gown!

Greeneke2, I agree with you!  I decided not to wear a veil because nothing really went well with my dress, but when I was considering it, I was astounded at the prices!  The things you don't know about weddings until you actually have one...
  • Nope. But I believe it. It sounds like you got a good deal on your dress.
  • I was shocked at the amount that veils cost, my FI told me I should just make one. I have no creative bones in my body though, so thats a no go!

  • I bought my dress on craigslist for $100 (brand new with tags!), my 2 sons are in my wedding and I have to pay $150each to rent tuxes for them.

Most veils on the site are around 15 bucks and they look great. =)

[QUOTE]You paid that much for just a veil? My mom made mine. Cost like $20 for tulle and beads.

  • Well, FI's doesn't cost more than mine, but the bridesmaids' dresses were $135 and the tuxes are going to be like $150! And we're renting them! WTF

  • You're right that veils are expensive, I wanted to get something I had actually tried on so I didn't feel comfortable ordering online and my veil ($200) cost more than my dress ($100 on sample sale).
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I had to laugh at this because I gave FI a hard time when we bought his suite for the wedding. Or I guess I should say suits. He doesn't own any good tailored suits and Men's warehouse was having some very good sales and we ended up getting one suit on sale and the second suit half off. He also got many shirts and ties. I think in total he spent close to the amount of my dress. But again I couldn't really blame him because now any time we go out, he looks damn fine!

Lol. My dress was definitely more expensive than his tux will be, but I was shocked about the wedding rings! His will be around 500 while mine will only be around 150... thank heaven I liked the clean look of a plain white gold band, or we'd be out an extra thousand bucks. Seriously?? Just for a man ring?

  • Lol, that's pretty funny..did not happen with us but I could totally see my FI pulling that..he loves suits and looking his absolute best all the time.  Which is very nice :)
  • Actually, my FI's attire will cost more then mine as well.  I bought a nice dress from DB's for $210.  No alterations yet, but I don't see those adding too much (no train on my dress).  FI is buying a full wool kilt, fly plaid, and guillee shoes.  We could rent them, but we know he will be able to get multiple uses out of them.  He already owns the prince charlie jacket, but his kilt will be $400+  So yeah, his attire will cost more then mind in the end.
