Aramark

The hall we are having our reception at requires us to use their caterer, which is Aramark.

Not a big deal, because they have options that are with in our budget. However one of our friends said she went to a wedding there and tasted Aramarks food and it was horrible. We had a meeting with them today and they said they normally dont do tastings but might be able to get together something for us to taste before the wedding.

I was just wondering if anyone has used them or been to an event that they caterered. If so was the food good and would do you have?

We are thinking about doing their lasagne buffet, "trip to italy" buffet (spaghetti and and alfredo noodles), or BBQ buffet

Re: Aramark

  • Yes. In my opinion, their food is not good. I have been to work functions where Aramark was supplying the meal and it was like cafeteria quality food. I remember the chicken was so dried out I literally couldn't swallow it. And the vegetables were all very soggy and extremely salty.

And I would never book anyone who said they won't let you do a tasting. That's crazy.
  • We had Aramark at our college, and let's just say they have different levels of quality. They can be quite good, but generally it's kinda eh. And I would insist on a tasting, that's a little like, oh look this dress will fit, don't try it on.

  • I also had Aramark at the college I went to last year and after the first semester I wasn't thrilled to eat there anymore. They have their good and their bad days.
  • Yeah the hall we are renting is actually a college dining hall. It sounds bad but its  a beautiful round room with glass windows all around (its a small catholic college) so the building itself is very pretty and the outside has tons of spots for great pictures.

Im going to try to insist on getting a tasting. We are leaning towards the BBQ we are kind of hoping that its hard to mess up barbeque if its dry you can just drown it in sauce and although it may not be the best its usually edible.

We probably would have went with a different caterer if our facility allowed it.
  • You have to have a tasting! There is absolutely no way they could refuse you. They will just charge you a minimal fee which is completely worth it to ensure you're going to get the food you want.  I'm having my reception at my alma matter and have to use the caterer, but I'm completely comfortable with - it's actually so much easier than adding another vendor to my list!

My college had Aramark as well, and day to day cafeteria food was blah, but when they put on functions, it was nice.  Just be sure to ask what people's favorites are out of their menu.  You may end up with something you didn't necessarily want, but at least it's something they are experienced at cooking!
