Chit chat here

How's everyone doing?  Anything exciting going on this week?  I'm just waiting to hear the news that we're expecting more babies on this board!!

I'm doing alright...freaking out because I have to get tons of blood work done throughout my next cycle, and I'm terrified of blood work.  I'm trying not to think about it, but it's hard!!! Oh, and H got a job!!  It's not a wonderful job with wonderful pay, but it's a decent job with decent pay.  They're willing to be flexible with him once he's in law school (hopefully next fall), so that's really important.  Oh, and his office is across the street from me!!  We're literally on the same street, how cool is that?

Re: Chit chat here

  • Yay to the job and being close to your hubby! Do I sense a looot of lunch dates in the near future? :) But boo to all the bloodwork, though I hope it all ends up being helpful.

I, too, am wating to hear any baby news. I've actually pondered starting a nosey thread for the married ladies about who is TTC right now, but didn't know how wel that would be received ;) Though we all seem to be pretty open with our reproductive cycles and whatnot, so maybe I'm not too far off. Hey, I'll offer my info - we're in that in-between stage where I've got the "baby itch" but I'm kind of holding out to try for a mid-to-late-fall birth. But if it comes down to it, we're not really avoiding. Though my husband has been out of town a lot lately so we've been avoiding by default.

  • Congrats to your H on the new job!  The location sounds great Smile and it's awesome that they can be flexible with his schedule once he starts law school.

My FI emailed me today and said they finally were told that their office is going back to full-time hours!  However, it might not be permanent, but just for a little while until they get caught up on projects, so we're trying not to get too over-excited in case it's only temporary.  But still, it's better than nothing!
  • Yay for new jobs!! You guys could probably get lunch breaks together since your jobs will be close. Lunch dates are always fun and mix up the day.

Good luck with the blood work. Just try and focus on something else while it's happening. I hate the dentist, so I almost always spend half of my teeth cleanings just praying. Maybe some Hail Marys will keep your mind off of it. :)

Im going to a concert tonigjht with my Fiance. We're seeing Hugh Laurie (Dr. House)
It's our birthday present, since his was Monday and mine is Saturday! Should be a lot of fun. I'm wearing a new dress, which always makes me feel good.

I'm getting super excited about my our wedding. Invitations went out this week, and my dress should arrive soon!

  • H and I are TTC and not having a whole lot of luck, but we're chalking it up to the whole, "We've only seen each other once a month for the last two months" thing.  It can get frustrating when you think the timing is right and then nothing happens.  I'm a little confused by my cycle right now, so I'm just trying not to worry about it until my next doctor appointment next week.  I'm hoping we can get pregnant soon, because I'd prefer not to be due right at the beginning of the next school year... those first couple of months seem like the absolute worst time to be out of the classroom!  H comes home in nine days and I'm soooooooooooo ready!

Otherwise I finally gave in and took a day off work to go to the doctor.  I've had mild symptoms of a sinus infection for about a week and a half and I've been trying to self-medicate and it's not working, so I got some cough medicine and a z-pack and hopefully things will clear up ASAP.  I'm tired of this persistent cough!

That's so exciting about the new job, Resa!

Christina, that sounds like it's going to be awesome.  Does Hugh Laurie sing?  I know he's really funny!

  • i have tickets to Barry Manilow on Friday night.  im pretty pumped!
  • calypso, you're a fanilow?
  • I don't think I realized Hugh Laurie sings.  And yay for Barry Manilow!

Professor, I'm sorry about your difficulty TTC so far.  Hopefully it's just a matter of timing.  I can't wait to find out you're expecting a Baby Professor (partially because it makes me imagine a baby in a professor-esque ensemble, and that's just an adorable mental image).

Yay for all the upcoming weddings!!!!  Erin and Christina, you're both getting so close!  I remember back when your weddings seemed pretty far off....you must be getting so stoked!!  Are you going on honeymoons?

  • Now I've got "I Write the Songs" in my head :)

Prof - that is frustrating - both the no-husband-at-home deal (boy howdy) and the TTC frustrations. I will spout this may-or-may-not-be-true statistic that I hear on The Bump all the time. Even with perfect timing, you only have a 20% chance of getting pregnant each cycle. Again, not entirely sure how true it is, but maybe? Also, as a teacher, it did kind of stink to miss the first 2 months of school (little guy was born on Sept. 4th and school started on the 6th). But I totally didn't care. AND it was great that summer break coincided with my 3rd trimester of pregnancy :) I was never concerned about having my water break in the middle of class.

  • At this point, I'm pretty much just ready for the wedding to be here!  I don't have a TON of stuff left to do, just little projects here and there, but I'm getting anxious for the planning/waiting stage to be over.  It is fun getting RSVPs in the mail every day though!  I have my bridal shower/bachelorette party next weekend which should be lots of fun, and another shower the next weekend for the women in FI's family.  I'm trying hard not to ruin the surprises and check out our registries, but I don't know if I can avoid it!

We're going on a honeymoon, but not right away.  We'll be going to a resort in Puerto Morelos, Mexico (Riviera Maya area) for a week, about six weeks after the wedding.  I'm glad we're waiting a bit, it gives us another thing to look forward to.  Also, we'll be going in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so it'll be nice having some time together just the two of us in between the craziness of family holidays
  • He's performing with a The Cooper Bottom Band. It's mainly jazz music I believe. I don't know all his music very well, but from the PBS specials he was always awesome.

We're doing a mini honeymoon in Hollywood Florida for 5 days, and then we hope to go to Italy in February for Valentine's Day if we can afford it.

Barry Manilow is fun toon! My Mom used to play his CD in the car when I was a kid.

I just watched my friend's wedding DVD. (My FI and I met at her wedding) and I saw my Fiance first chatting me up on the dance floor during Copacabana. I guess thats sort of the first song we ever danced to. ;)

  • i love Barry.  this is the second time ive seen him in concert - i was supposed to see him back in february in NYC but he canceled his shows there.

    he gives a great show.
  • So much yay in this thread -- for jobs and weddings and fun plans and pre-wedding parties and babies to be. I'm enjoying my mental images of a professor baby and tea-party girl (being terrorized by big brother).

We're not TTC Wink. C has been so fussy that we joke about her not wanting brothers and sisters. In all actuality, we don't know how long, exactly, we want to wait, but I'm guessing we'll aim to have our next LO when C is 2-3.

  • I am soooooo keeping my fingers crossed that FI's switch back to full-time is permanent - that means we can move up our plans to sell the condo and buy a house, which means we can think about TTC sooner.  I got to hang out with my (to-be) nieces and nephew over the past weekend, which definitely re-ignited my baby fever!  We've talked about wanting to have at least one year of being married before starting a family, but as long as we were OK financially, I would be fine if we started a little sooner.

There have been more than a few occassions where I told our little guy he is going to be an only child. :) But those tend to be in the middle of the night in a sleepy stupor.

Also, if we end up with any girls I don't know what I would do with myself. My husband's family apparently cannot produce a single female in their line (okay, exaggeration, but still) so I've pretty much settled on all boys. A girl would throw off my groove :)

  • Our wedding is almost a month away now. Things have been getting more hectic with each passing week. When we aren't talking about wedding related items, we almost always drift toward the topic of when we want to TTC. We both totally have baby fever. It really won't help that our honeymoon is at Disney World, with little kids everywhere! We would love to be in a position to buy a house before we have children, we would really like for that to be in 6-8 months after the wedding. Hopefully it all works out that way. :-)
  • Squee!! I love baby talk, though that is years out in our future for now. :) I went through serious baby fever in my early twenties, but it's since calmed. Which is good, because even going to the grocery store was painful. So many adorable little ones in carts, reaching out with their tiny little baby hands... ahhhh!!

Anyway FI and I met with the family life director at the church we're getting married at and confirmed that we just need to prepare with our new parish in NY and don't need to worry about getting the same requirements as required down here.

I bought my dress on Monday!! It is strapless! :) Today found out that the church doesn't require me to cover my shoulders, but I'm having a lace bolero made anyway because I think it will look nicer for the ceremony and I like the idea of having a mini wardrobe change ;)

I am in love with my dress. I hadn't thought I'd go strapless, but it was a lot more flattering than I remember strapless being. It is somehow high-necked it seems, not too revealing. It's fluffy and has a corset back and lace bodice and I'm just in love. Plus it was super within our budget. My mom and I found it so easily-- no fights, no tears, no arguments. Hurrah!!

FI is back from a week-plus-long trip to see his family in Nebraska. It was good for him to catch up with his sisters and all, but I'm so glad to have him back. Also now we can get more wedding things done.

And next week we go looking for apartments in New York. (SQUEEEE!!!!!)

  • My chit chat...

We've been married almost two months and I finally went to the SS office today to change my last name. Funny how when I told my co-workers they were all surprised I was changing my name...completely...It didn't even occur to me I wouldn't. Maybe if we weren't planning on having kids I would've considered keeping my maiden name or hyphenating it.

I start a "new" job October 1st. I say "new" because for the last two years I have had 2 PT jobs, worked 7 days a week, and now will be FT at one of them with a day off! The pay will be better even though more distance to travel and longer hours overall, but the other job, when/if I get pregnant, I would not be able to do it, so planning ahead.

Still reeling over my Grandmother's death a month ago Thursday. My Grandfather is doing surprisingly well. He has such strong faith and I truly believe that and our family is what is pulling him through. My Great Aunt is now in hospice and I feel guilty for being so mad that she, at 94 years old, has decided she wants to die and is on a hunger strike. The logical side of me feels something must be really wrong for her to feel this way. But the emotional side is saying why did my Grandma have to be dealt such a crappy hand when she wanted to live and this one has decided she wants to die?

My husband and I had sort of had the baby talk and while I am ready NOW, he is a bit freaked. Trying to give him space/time, but feeling the bio clock ticking considering I am 35...

Wow, I've never participated in a "chit chat" thread before, but it does feel nice  to unload!

  • I still haven't changed my name, either!  I just keep forgetting.  At first I was so excited to change it and get it done, but then I had to wait almost 3 weeks for my darn marriage license to arrive in the mail.  By then, I'd lost the motivation.

  • I have to share this:

This week we've been doing an activity called Challenge Day with our freshmen.  It's a chance for the kids to share sort of their deepest darkest secrets and to create a community of love and support in the class.  It was amazing.  I mean, it broke my heart to see the pain my kids have gone through (and I mean some serious stuff), but to see them lift each other up and just love each other was amazing.

Yesterday I stayed home sick, but I've been told it was a giant lovefest at school.  I'm so happy to see some positive change in the students.  Literally the DAY BEFORE our Challenge Day, I had to turn in a kiddo who was threatening to beat up another student, and now their all BFFs.

@ professor--I would love to know more about this Challenge day activity.  Is this like an outside program you guys heard about, or did your school come up with it?  If you have a link or resource about it--pass it on!

@Sarah--about your dress, pics or it didn't happen!  I love dress pics!
