Receiving Line Ideas?

My fiance and I are not seeing each other before the wedding (this is already decided), which means that we need to do pictures after the ceremony.  This means, in order to not keep our guests waiting forever, we need to immediately start pictures after the ceremony.  The problem this causes, however, is that we won't be able to do a receiving line right after the ceremony.  We are trying to come up with another idea of how to be sure we can formally greet all of our guests.  The only other thing we've come up with is to be the ones to kind of dismiss each table for the buffet dinner, but we've been told we will be wanting to be sure we get enough time to sit and eat.  Any other brides who have had this problem, or any other ideas of ways we can make this work?  Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Receiving Line Ideas?

  • Many people eat quickly and go around to each table during/after dinner.

A wedding I attended last year had the receiving line at the reception.
    Married 10/2/10
  • I've seen a lot of people go around to each table after they eat, but some people say this should be in addition to a receiving line?  Would you be offended if you were at a wedding and they greeted after they ate and not at all before that?

[QUOTE] It took about 10 minutes for the line, followed by 30 for pics, and then we walked over to the reception.

How many guests did you have?  I was told it would probably take us 30 min to greet all of our guests as they left the ceremony area!

  • How far out is your wedding? If you haven't already sent your invites you could simply state that. We put "pictures to follow the ceremony".

Our photographer is also doing what aerinpegadrak suggested and taking photos beforehand so we can focus on the fun stuff afterwards.
