Alterations in City or NW Burbs

Hi, I know this has been posted a ton, but the search function is searching every board, not Chicago. Anyway!

I need alterations recommendations for either the City or NW Burbs near Palatine (or in between). I think all I need is a bustle really, but I don't know I guess until I get there. It seems to fit fairly well.

Who has been great for your wedding dress alterations?

Thanks!!

Me too! I prefer city northside or nearby burbs, but if they are a good referral don't mind driving.

I haven't had any alterations done and still have to decide myself, but I believe Mary Catomy is in Schiller Park (O'Hare) and comes highly recommended on this board.

I know Mary Catomy is highly recommended.... if you do a google search for chicago alterations brides.com , there's a whole list of chicago bridal alterations on the link titled "chicago dress alterations" -- You could go through that list and see where people are located. I know 'Gwen Yildrine' has a place in west dundee as well. actually, I'll just copy and paste the post for you-- it's a couple of years old but by far biggest list of bridal alterations ppl i've seen:

went A L'Amore in Barrington to look at bridesmaid dresses.  I bought my dress in a different state so I inquired about alterations.  They gave me a list with names/address/telephone of 25 seamstresses around the Chicago area.  They had stars next to 4 of them marking them as their suggested seamstresses.

I just called Mary-- she's already booked and can't do my alterations before my June 5th wedding.

    Any other ideas??

Thanks Jessiwo. That list is very helpful! I called the Dress Doctor and may just go there. I was hoping for some personal experience with some of the places to make a decision, but maybe I can ask over on the Nest too since I am sure lots of people on here haven't gotten their alterations done yet:) I did also think Mary would be booked since my wedding is in April...but I haven't called yet.

no problem!! FYI dress doctor is known for being expensive (compared to some of the other alterations ppl). If you go, don't let them talk you into a price that seems unreasonable.

basic alterations should probably be from $250-$450...maybe taking in the dress some, hem up some, bustle and cups. Pricing depends on fabric, style, detail of dress. Mine is all over re-embroidered lace, and for $250 I'm having it taken in about 2 inches, bustled, and taken up. (Sue's bridal)

Thought that might help! good luck

Oh that is good to know, I really had no idea. I knew Dress Doc was supposed to be pricey, sigh. It is so close, haha. I appreciate the insight!
