P*nta Cana Honeymoon?!

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone has been to P*nta Cana for their Honeymoon. We are considering a few resorts there, including the Excellence. Does anyone have any hotel reccommendations?

Also, I was wondering how the water was and if it was swimable? If so, does anyone know what time of year is best?

If you have been there, let me know if you did any excursions, boat rides, activites, snorkeling, etc.

Thanks!!!

Re: P*nta Cana Honeymoon?!

  • SIL HMed at Iberostar's Grand Bavaro hotel and loved it so much that my ILs vacationed there 6 months later.
  • I honeymooned at Iberostar Grand Bavaro in P*unta Cana May 28 - June 4.  It was FABULOUS!  5 star service and beautiful resort and beaches.  The water was swimmable, clear turquoise and the sand was powder soft.  Although there are activites offered during the days, and nightly shows (including a bar on the ship), the resort is quiet and you can choose to participate as much, or as little, as you want.  It is adults-only and there are no sales pitches to listen to.  You have use of the sister resort's facilities next door if you want additional activities (club and casino), but they do not have use of the Grand.  Personal butlers make sure you have everything and anything you need and everybody is friendly and helpful.  We did a day-long catamaran excursion from Cap Cana, which was awesome.

As an aside, a coworker of mine honeymooned at Excellence and said the surf is too rough for swimming.  My travel agent concurred.

  • Have to looked in the the Majestic Elegance? You can stay in a section called the club that is adults only. I havent been there but we are probably going their for our honeymoon. We are a younger couple so we didnt want anything too quiet... this place has 13 bars, a casino, and a golf course, and also private beaches and swimming pools. Iv heard alot about it and it seems like a great time!
  • We recently vacationed @ the Sirenis Resort.  The resort was nice, the water was swimmable.  We went deep sea fishing, and did a package to a private island with speed boat ride.  We had a fabulous time, the food wasn't bad, and it was affordable!
  • We didn't go for a our HM, but we were engaged there. We traveled July 26-31 last year and it was great.

We stayed at Catalonia Royal Bavaro (the Royal side is for adults only), and we stayed in a suite with a jacuzzi tub (those are the more newly renovated rooms). I would highly recommend it. The water was definitely swimmable, although, the area that we stayed in had lots of resorts around it so the beach wasn't huge. Also, there was a lot of seaweed that washed up on shore, but they did their very best to keep it clean, and we got used to it after a few days. I think the time of year that we went was great. It rained on a few days but only for about 10 minutes at a time.

Be sure to look up reviews for some of these places on Trip Advisor!

  • Does anyone know about Secrets in Punta Cana? We were almost ready to book there for our HM in November, but I just chickened out. We are hoping for some excursions as well.
