Re: The 19 Days of Harry Potter: 11 Days to Go!

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books?  25-26 ish
Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore?  No.
How many times have you read the entire series?  Just once, about to start my second time
Who turned you on the books?  Well I had an ex that was totally obsessed (as in threw elbows running through walmart at midnight to get the book once) - but that still didn't turn me onto them until a coworker raved on and on about them and I finally decided to give it a try.
Who did you pass your HP book love onto?  One of my good friends, she got me into Twilight and I returned the love with HP books.
  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books? I was late to the game and didn't start reading until 2005 before HBP was released, so I was 20.

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore? No, sadly, but I read every book the day (mid-day) it was released.

How many times have you read the entire series? At least 5 times all the way through. I always try to re-read the series before a movie comes out so I can refresh.

Who turned you on the books? My mom. I don't know how she found them before I did.

Who did you pass your HP book love onto? My DH. Although he still refuses to read the books, he does like to watch the movies and I just fill him in on everything that he is missing or doesn't understand.

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books? I was 17, in my first year of college. It was the fall when the first movie came out, and I wanted to be caught up on the books before seeing the movie.
Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore? Yes, I went to the midnight parties for OOTP, HBP, and DH. The first four had already been released when I started reading them.
How many times have you read the entire series? I dunno. A bunch. I've read HBP and DH the most often, because they appeal to me the most.
Who turned you on the books? My sister and my mom.
Who did you pass your HP book love onto? Everybody else already loved them by the time I started.

I was 21 when I started (the first movie had just come out).

Never been to a book release party, but I did purchase my copy of DH not long after midnight when it came out.  I was in KY for a friend's wedding and on our way home from the RD she realized she needed something, so we stopped and I purchased my book while we were in the store.

I don't know to be honest.

    My sister.

A friend's husband.  We were talking about the movies one night when I told him he could borrow my books if he wanted since he likes to read.  He loved them.

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books?
    About 22

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore?
Yep. I usually worked them at the local B&N where I worked in college. When HBP came out I didn't work there anymore, but they called and offered to let me work the event anyway, which was nice of them. It was fun and you got schwag for working the event.

How many times have you read the entire series?
    I lost count.

Who turned you on the books?
    My college roommates.

Who did you pass your HP book love onto?
Probably a few people, but most recently my friend Christine. Oh, and one of the girls who was in my WP.

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books? Hmm... 21 or 22? I didn't start reading them until after the 5th book was out.

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore? No, but I did go to Walmart at midnight to get Deathly Hallows.

How many times have you read the entire series? Four or five times? I've read DH 3 times, and I plan to read it again starting Sunday. These are the only books I've ever read more than once. I usually hate re-reading books.

Who turned you on the books? My sister had the first ones, and they were always lying around. My old roommate had read them all, and at the time, I didn't care about HP. So really, I don't know what changed.

Who did you pass your HP book love onto? Sadly, I've tried to get my mom and my H to read them without success. My H does watch the movies with me, though. I'm sure my children will be Potterphiles like myself.
  • I think I started reading shortly after the first movie came out. So whenever that was.

Never been to a bookstore party.

I've read the series at least 5 times. I read all of the books over again each time a new one was released, starting with book 5, and at least one other time to boot.

Seeing the movie got me interested, so I picked up the first four books that my sister already had laying around. She hated the first one and never continued any of them.

    DH.
  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books?   19, it was shortly before the 4th book was released

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore? no

How many times have you read the entire series?  mmm....3 or 4 times?

Who turned you on the books?  a guy I dated in college for a couple months my freshman year.

Who did you pass your HP book love onto?  maybe a coworker, but I was kind of late in reading them so most people who were going to be on the HP train had already boarded.

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books?
29-30 - Just before the release of OotP

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore?
Nope - I don't really do well with large crowds, so I kind of avoid that stuff

How many times have you read the entire series?
I probably read them at least once a year if not more - so 6 or 7 times...
Who turned you on the books?
My sister - her and her son were reading them...
Who did you pass your HP book love onto?
No one really - most of my friends were already turned on to it.  However, though he doesn't read the books, my FI does watch the movies and I won't say he loves them, it does give us great discussion fodder about the differences between book/movie.

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books? 25 Embarassed I actually tried to read them when they first started coming out, but I couldn't get into them. I read them all about 6 months ago LOL and LOVED Them!

  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books? Hmm... 19?  Is that embarassing...?

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore? Only sort of.  I was driving home from Boston LATE one night and I was going by a Barnes and Noble.  It was launch night for Half Blood Prince.  I stopped in to check it out.  I left quickly - lots of screaming children and possessed parents/workers.

How many times have you read the entire series? I've read each book several times.  I want to read them in order for the first time ever.  I will start that as soon as I finish my current book.

Who turned you on the books? My mom, initially.  She bought SS and couldn't get past the first few chapters.  I took it from her, read it, and begged her to try again.  She did.  And loved them all!

Who did you pass your HP book love onto? My mom and my fiance.
  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books?

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore?
All of them but 7 had been released when I started reading the series.  A group of friends and I did go to a bar across the street from the release party at Kmart where we had reserved ours (we assumed, and were correct, that there would be no line to wait for our books at Kmart) and wandered over at midnight to get our books and try on old lady underthings.  We then spent the entire weekend draped around my living room reading and drinking red bull until we had all finished.  That's what cool kids do.

How many times have you read the entire series?
5 or 6...I'm re-reading 7 now in anticipation of the movie.

Who turned you on the books?
FI.  I only read them to shut him up, he kept telling me they were better than The Dark Tower, and I kept telling him they were stupid kids books.  He came down for a visit one weekend and when we left borders, he handed me a bag with books 1-4.  When he came down two weeks later, he brought his copies of 5 & 6.  He was right.  They're better.

Who did you pass your HP book love onto?
One co-worker, who just came back from the Wizarding Wold of HP theme park...so clearly I was successful in drawing her in :)

Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore?

How many times have you read the entire series?
I've never read the whole series start to finish because since the last books came out I've been back and forth to Chile and have never had them all at once. I've read each book at least twice though, more for most of them except 7.
Who turned you on the books?
My nephew, who's a year younger than I am. He was reading Chamber of Secrets when it had just come out and told me to read Philospher's Stone (English side of the family) - I blazed through it and made my mom go out and get me CoS.
Who did you pass your HP book love onto?
    An ex-bf
  • How old were you when you starting reading the HP books?  11
Did you ever go to a HP book release party at a bookstore? I always wanted to, but never got to.  I did get GOF and OOTP at midnight though, and pre-ordered DH.
How many times have you read the entire series? I've read HBP/DH probably twice each, SS, COS and POA probably five times each, GOF ten times, and OOTP over twenty times, easily.
Who turned you on the books? Mrs. Siebert, my sixth grade teacher.  She read SS to us aloud in class.
Who did you pass your HP book love onto?  My little brother (who hates to read).  I was amazed, but not only did he read the first few, he actually LIKED reading them.
