Mix CD favor dilemma!

So I have this elaborate plan for the ultimate wedding mix CD to use as an inexpensive but personal, memorable, and useful favor for our guests...  However, a thought occured to me earlier today that might just dash my hopes.  At least the hopes of it being inexpensive.

The music companies don't like it when people steal music, so I buy mine.  However, that music is not supposed to be endlessly distributable, and I can't see how they'd like me burning 200+ copies of their songs...

Is this a real issue (or am I making it up??), and if so, how do I work with it?

You're making it up.  You're not going to get sued.  You're not making money off of the songs.  Come on.

Plus, quite honestly, it's a non-issue as most of your guests will NEVER and I mean NEVER even listen to your CD.  Sorry.  Plus, honestly this was a big novelty in the late 90's and early 2000's, no one is really doing this anymore.  Who actually listens to CDs anymore?

It's not illegal.  At least I don't think so.  What it IS, however, is a huge waste of $$, time, and effort.

Honestly, you're assuming that all 200 of your guests will have the same musical taste as you do.  And that's not happening.  I have never, ever kept a mix CD that someone burned for me.  And chances are good that I wouldn't keep yours either.

    I'd find a different favor.

If I tell you yes, it's stealing, will you change your mind on the CD as a favor and do something edible instead?

I still like CD favors, but I've never met anyone else who has :). If you have the perfect songs already in mind, try just making a playlist and listening to it with your bridesmaids while you're prepping to walk down the aisle

Technically yes it is illeagl..but highly unlikely anyone will really notice or make a deal about it.

And I think your idea is great, I am actually doing the same thing.

BTW- 100 pack of CD's for as low as 7.99 at microcenter.com

    Good luck!

Yea, I wanted to do this too.  I got a CD from my roommate in college for her wedding, and I still listen to it... I love most of the songs on there.  Maybe you'd want to make 1 per couple if you're worrying about cost.
    I think it's a great idea!
