Siblings all had expensive weddings.

I'm marrying the man of ny dreams some time next year and he's the oldest of 4 siblings.  He's the last to get married of all of them.  We just had a son in April so we are low on funds and both of our parents aren't exactly rolling in the dough like they had been in years past.  All of his siblings weddings were AMAZINGLY expensive and beautiful but I feel like there's no way we can compete with those weddings. We wanted to get married in Vegas but I'm a little scared to bring my son on a 7 hour plane ride.  Are there any other unique wedding ideas in Ohio (Columbus preferebly but could be anywhere in Ohio) that we can look into that would be around 10K total for maybe 100 people?

Re: Siblings all had expensive weddings.

  • When are you planning on getting married? My wedding is in Feb, and we toured lots of venues within that budget (but specially priced for a winter wedding). A lot of places also offer discounts for a Fri or Sun wedding. Also, is the 10k your total wedding budget, or just for the venue (and I'm assuming catering and bar, etc)? I looked into 11 different places, so hopefully I can help a little! Are you looking to do ceremony and reception in the same place?

  • Thanks for the reply! the 10k would be for EVERYTHING.. I don't even know if that's doable. We are planning on getting married on May 18th, so it will be a Saturday wedding so I know we won't be getting any discounts for the Fri or Sunday weddings. And the ceremony and reception don't HAVE to be in the same place, that'd be nice but it's not a deal breaker if it can't be done.  I appreciate any suggestions you have :)  Thanks!

  • Check out Columbus Athenaeum or Tall Timbers. They allow you to bring your own alcohol.which cuts costs. Conisder cutting the guest list to meet within your budget as well.  Our budget is the same as yours. However, we are getting married this December and getting some "off-season" prices.
  • under 10k is do-able for sure!

We are getting married at the big room, and it would be perfect for a 100 person wedding and they allow your own caterer and alcohol. We also looked at the swim and racquet club and it was beautiful but it was too small for us, we are having around 150.

We looked at the Athenauem and we could not afford it, it was well over our budget! You just need to find a place off the beaten path and you can totally pay for it!
  • The Athenaeum has rooms that would fall in that budget, but to me their ceremony charge is way too high. Reception is very reasonable though. You also may want to check The River Club at Confluence Park (Marianne is awesome, and will try to work with your budget), The Vault (lets you provide catering), The Makoy Center in Hilliard.
My wedding is at The Loft at Dock580. Steve also was very willing to work with my budget, but they're pretty booked up already for next year during the "wedding season". It might be worth a shot, though I don't think it's as good a deal without the heavy winter discount.

  • Also, I'm taking my 7 month old (along with my 3&5 year olds!) to CA in Oct. So if you really want to do Vegas, I say go for it!

There are A LOT of options for a $10,000 wedding for 100 people! We got married in Chillicothe, in July, 165 people for about $12,000 including going over budget for photographer (a few bumps in the road!).

ETA: Don't feel like you need to compete or live up to anyone else's wedding.  It's *your* wedding, it's *your* marriage (to FI), have it the way YOU guys want to have it.  At the end of the day, you will be married to your FI and that's the important thing.

  • We are having our wedding in the afternoon at the Makoy Center in their Burgundy Room.  At night there is a $7,000 minimum but during the after you only have the rental fee with no minimum.  Kaitlin has been gret, she responds quickly to any questions that I have had.  The only thing we do not like about it is there are not a lot of opportunity for great pictures at the venue so we are going to a local park and possibly taking pictures with out photograhper after the ceremony and reception.
  • The Bryn Du Mansion is a great venue. It's just 20mins outside of Columbus in Granville. They don't have an in house caterer so you can save money by brining your own alcohol and food.

Bryn Du is about 30 minutes outside of Columbus if you leave from Pickerington, not to mention I've never heard of a single wedding there that was under $15000.

  • Autumn Lakes is very affordable. They are a wedding and reception venue and do the catering. They have a variety of prices for the wedding depending on were you want to have it there. You bring your own alchol and they supply a bartender. The venue is gorgeous. I'm having my wedding there in July. It's heated and cooled.
