Cocktail hour????

Hello Ladies,

I am trying to finalize some ideas for our cocktail hour. My FI thinks we should keep it minimal with just serving meatballs and having a fruit and cheese tray. I am thinking that were should have a few more items for a variety of choices. Are any of you guys doing a cocktail hour?? What have you chosen to be served? My guests list is 211. Do you think that we should consider adding more items, or should we keep it simple knowing that a huge buffet dinner is being served. I just dont wnat my guests to feel like there really isnt alot of variety. Let know, and as always, thankyou!

Well if it is within your budget to do more then do it. Since there is 211 people, who will probably be really hungry, I would do at least 4-6 different cocktails, esp if you are doing light cocktails. I have been to a ton of weddings and at the last one, I think there was close to 180 people, they had a veggie tray, cheese and crackers and fruit. It was all gone within 20 minutes and half the people did not even get a chance to have cocktails. You have to think, each person will probably eat 5-6 pieces each. Maybe you could talk to your caterer and get their opinion/ also some venues will include extras if you meet a min amount of ppl.

I am having 6 cocktail stations and 46 different butlered hors d' oeuvres plus a sit down dinner for 150 ppl but that all comes with my venue and is included with the overall price.

You definatelly need more food for that many people! I am having a fruit/cheese tray and spinach/artichoke dip (standard with my venue) but my guest list is 80 people. So that was ok with me. 211 is alot of people! More food for sure!

I had 125 people.  I had 4 stationed (crackers and cheese, veggies, fruit, and mini fried raviolis), plus 6 butlered.  There were none left after our cocktail hour was over.  That should give you the idea that with 211 people, you need A TON more food than what your FI is proposing.

Not to mention that it isn't really thinking about your guests either.  If someone is allergic to dairy, they are left with one option- and may not be too happy about that.  If someone is a vegan, they have nothing to eat.

Remember, while this day is about celebrating the love and marriage between you and FI, it's ultimately about your guests.  If it were all about you and FI, you would have blown it on a luxury cruise to the Meditarrainean, and gone to the courthouse for the marriage certificate.  But you didn't, because your guests-family, friends, close people in your life- are important to you.  Make this about them, the way it should be.

I'm having about 180 people... and we're having cheese display, veggie display, and 5 butlered.

    Well that settles it.... :)

Thanks ladies as always. I will stick to my original idea and have mutiple stations and a few items butlered. The FI will just have to get over it ! :)Laughing

my catering comes with the following for the cocktail hour:

    fresh fruit tray
    cheese & cracker tray
    fresh veggie tray
& i cut it down from 4 hot hor'dourves to just one to save some money. I went with an artichoke cheese fondue.
