How many bottles of beer?

We are having a DIY reception at a historic state park lodge, and we expect about 70-80 adult guests (obviously the kiddos don't drink beer!) The reception will have a regular dinner, buffet style.

My fiance is a home-brewer, and we plan on having a keg (5 gallons) of homemade root beer for floats, and we also want to have home-brewed beer in bottles (the keg rules are tricky for the park).

Any idea on how many bottles you think would be sufficient for our crowd? I assume not everyone would drink the beer, but some of our guests might drink several.  We would have iced tea and such also.

Do you think we should have wine too?  The park does not allow liquor.

Re: How many bottles of beer?

  • I am not sure how much beer you should have, but I would definitely have some wine available.  While neither me nor my partner are big wine drinkers, I know that not everyone likes beer so having an option would be nice.

  • Beverages and More says to estimate 2 drinks in the first hour, 1 drink per hour thereafter.
