Bought a dress off the rack so it's a fixer upper, espcially the delicate lace straps - any recommendations for an affordable person? I live near Rookwood.

    I went to Alterations by Toni in Maderia. She only has a few ladies working with her and has been doing it for almost 30 years. They have a super fast turn around and I had a lot done. I got a corset added, and hemming done in a  week (I told her to take her time) but she said a week and I'm going back for my last fitting August 31st which is straps, adding a monogram and that's it. They are all really wonderful.

    Is her business expensive? If I recall, wedding #1, I had a corset put in and the hem line altered for $265...thought it was high, but really don't have a good perspective on that kind of thing.

    I didn't think that she was expensive because I had a lot done. definitely check out The Knot vendor rec section and see what people are saying and do some searches on-line.

    I went to Kim Alterations in downtown Cincinnati.  My dress was also off the rack and I'm 5'2'' and (was) 108 lb. (gained weight since the wedding), so I didn't think it was an easy job but she did great.

    I found a gem of a seamstress! She is in the Hamilton area though..I bought my dress online and paid about 130 for it, well she is hemming 6 inches off, taking it in as I have lost over 35 pounds, adding boning to the bodice, a bustle and an xtra loop for the corset back and all of that is only $125..She is hemming my Moms dress, taking some in in the bust area and taking her shawl and making short sleeves to sew into the dress and that is just $50..PM if you want her number

    I also went to Kim Dao downtown, and thought it was very reasonable. She had to do handwork on a bridesmaid dress, take it in, remove boning and hem the dress. She did this all for $40. I brought my fiancee in with me both times as we were on our way to another location and she had us both laughing the entire visit!! Turn around time was a week and her work was impressive.

    Sew much in reading Mary Is amazing. I got 3 quotes she was the most affordable did a ton of work and a fabulous job. Very sweet lady too!
